PS2 or PS2 Slim?

We have got both machines, and I don’t really need two. Which one is better, the PS2 Slim or the PS2? Is there a difference?

The size of the slim is great, and if you don’t give them too much hammer you can get some good use out of them. At the prices the big ones are going for now though, you may as well get one of them as well, just to give your slim one a rest now and again.

p.s. Ignore the bit about purchasing another.

Well if you already have two; why not just keep them? I doubt you get more than 30 bucks for either one of them.

We’re being offered a trade, if there’s an appreciable difference (like one has a tendency to overheat or something like that-IDK, that why this thread), we’ll keep the better one.

Here is my experience.

My step brother bought a PS2 about 6 years ago and he still plays on it. I bought a slim one about 3 years ago and it still runs like a champ. Neither mine or my step-brothers have over heated so I don’t think that is a problem.

So design makes no real difference.

However, Wiki says the slim does not have room for a hard drive while the original bigger one does and that some games like Final Fantasy XI need a hard drive.

Personally I would go with whichever is the newest made as it should last longer.

I have known a good-sized number of gamers who have had to replace their full-size PS2 a shocking number of times. I haven’t heard of any troubles with that since the slim ones came out. My slim has taken a lot of use/abuse, and hasn’t given me any trouble. I’ve had it for about 3 years now, and it hasn’t frozen up at all, whereas I’ve seen the full-size ones freeze up many times.

I’ve had to take my PS2 apart and fix it to solve game freezes and disc read errors, but I remember reading at the time that it was an issue with older models. If they’re both the same age, I don’t think there would be any noticeable difference.

The slim doesn’t have a power button (other than the standby button), which is a tad annoying.
