Yeah, yeah I know most games only display in 720p anyway since PS3 doesn’t use hardware scaling like the 360 but it’s the principle of the thing. Anyway, I just got a PS3 and completed my console trinity, downloaded the update plugged it in via HDMI but I cannot get the damn thing in 1080p. I can get my 360 elite to set that resolution, but my PS3 will just blank out the TV searching for an input signal until it resets. And it’s not the HDMI port, I’ve tried all 3. I was told that the model should accept a 1080p input (and not just have it as its native resolution). I’ll get the model number if you guys need proof, but just trust me that it should (and tech support confirmed) take it as an input.
Do you have to go into the TV settings and activate the HDMI input? On my plasma the Component inputs and the HDMI inputs share a channel and you have to swap from one to the other in the setup menu.
My PS3 recognizes when a HDMI cable is plugged in and asks if I want to use it. My WAG is that the output needs to be reset and that can be done in one of the on screen menus. Or try the trick with holding down the power button.
It might just be a matter of fiddling around with the Video Output settings under display settings in the settings menu. Okay, I got it. Not really, I kinda cheated. Component cables work fine, I have no clue exactly WHY the HDMI (and it was 1.3) wouldn’t do 1080p, but I got it working the way I want it to at least.
So I don’t have to open a new thread - any really, really good console exclusives (not MGS4) I should be aware of? Folklore looks interesting but I’m not certain.
I have MGS4 (came packaged) and the Ratchet and Clank game (though I’m slightly confused since I’ve never played a game in that series before for any length due to my lack of ever owning a Sony system, so I don’t understand a lot of backstory.) I don’t think I’d like Drake’s Fortune so that’s probably out unless someone can convince me. Any other games out there?
Yup, I was more looking for current releases though. I really only have Ratchet and Clank to play, since I’ve never played a Metal Gear Solid game before (shame on me, etc), so I went through the prologue and went “wtf I need some back story.” And I have no way to play the other 3 games (I only have a Gamecube from last generation), so I’m sort of stuck until I can think of a solution.
