Psych me up to eat this!

Well…not as bad as I thought it would be, but not pierogi-like as I had hoped it would be. I would eat it if it’s what was served to me at a guests house,to be polite, but I would never make it for myself. If all I had was noodles, onions, and cream cheese in my house, I think I’d try to find 35 cents. Then I’d go buy a bagel, spread some cream cheese on it, and eat it while I waited for the noodles to boil.

As kids, we always turned our noses up at Shepards Pie. My grandfather would always say, “You like mashed potatoes, you like hamburger, you like peas, and you like carrots. You’ll like this.” True, we did like all those things, just not baked together in the same bowl. This is what we should have served him as our argument. Individually, they’re good. Mixed together, the whole isn’t as good as the sum of it’s parts.

Again, before I get sent to The Pit, I do appreciate that this woman thought enough of us to spend the money and time on the ingredients and preparation for us all to enjoy something that she enjoys making.

Anyone have any gum?

err…pesto Lest anyone think I enjoy eating Mexican coinage.

mmm…noodles and cream cheese. That sounds yummy.

But with fried onions? Sounds some Italian dish had some sort of weird mutation occur when it came across the ocean.

BTW…I always try to think of all things dairy as interchangable. I’ll eat sour cream or cream cheese on just about anything (sour cream on apple pie is awesome). I know a lot of people who put cottage cheese and cream cheese in Italian dishes. Cream cheese is a good ingredient to use when looking for a relatively tasteless way to give body to a sauce. Cottage cheese is a good substitute for ricotta cheese (which is very expensive around here).

But if that sounds disgusting to anyone in here, try this recipe. I have a friend who will mix jello with cool whip and cottage cheese. Sometimes, she’ll even put finely grated carrots into the mix to make a nutricious snack. Guess what? It’s not as bad as it sounds. However, for someone who actually likes to chew cottage cheese, that particular flavor is just a bit foreign to the mix.
