While the inmates may not see it that way, I certainly would classify what this woman did to this poor girl as “torture.” She’s probably going to need years upon years of therapy to get past this.
Nothing about it in the article, but you have to wonder if the parents of the other kids involved, those that got spiked drinks for instance, will go after her with charges as well.
As part of the punishment I’d like to see her hauled up in front of a special school meeting - all students and as many parents there as possible, and give a full confession/admission clearing the girl. Even though she’s been found guilty, rumours are still going to follow the poor kid around for quite a while.
Dude! You either need to turn on the TV, or get out of the house more!
But then again, good for you.
Another vote for a version of Muchausen by Proxy, or as it is better known: factitious disease. Certainly it looks like the bitch (to use the terminology of others in the thread) had been getting attention and sympathy based upon the percieved actions of this little girl. However, while I do suspect she’s facing mental health issues, I don’t think that she’s unwell enough that an insanity defense would have been viable.
That said - I hope she gets the help she needs.
But far more than that, I hope that the family she abused (and yes, IMNSHO, it was the whole family that suffered.) gets the help they deserve to repair any damage done to them. I don’t mean that as in I doubt that there had been damage done, just that as an outsider, I’m not willing to guess all the forms of damage that had been committed.
That poor girl. Sadly, even if every person in town was sent a letter telling them the true story, there will always be someone who missed it and who will continue to think this little girl is a monster.
If there was ever a situation where a lawsuit was justified, this is it. I really hope her family has found a good lawyer.
I’ve though about this some more. I think I could could forgive someone who raped or murdered my little child if I had one. I’m not sure I could forgive this.
Their best bet at this point would probably be to move away and start fresh in a new town. Poor little girl.
I don’t think you’d feel this way if you did have kids. I’d be a fucking lunatic if something even remotely sexual or fatal happened to one of my kids. Psychological torture is evil, yes, but rape and murder just would kill me if it happened to one of my babies.
Just offering a view from a Mother.
Other than that, if someone did something like that to one of my kids, I’d be quite inclinded to a little “harrassment” towards her myself. I’d freak and probably hit her, a lot, after finding out.
Just musing. My kids are still toddlers. I’ll be promptly locking them in the house until they are elderly now.
That’s some kind of fucked up right there.
And it gets worse once you read the article. And worse and worse. What an awful creature.
Can she? Wouldn’t the dreaded Permenant Record in school have a long recitation of the girl’s “disciplinary problems?” With the way these things work, I doubt if they’ve ripped out those pages. Her psychiatric records, and the Chi;dren’s Services reports might follow her for years.
I would hope that a judge would have the power to cause the girl’s records to be edited to reflect the truth?
It’s not so much the judge has or hasn’t got the power, but first - will the judge or the girl’s parents think of amending the records? And secondly, it’s possible that criminal court doesn’t have jurisdiction over such records, it may be a family court matter, or even civil court. I’d not be surprised for the girl’s parents to be told it’s not worth the trouble. :dubious:
I’d think that they could appeal to the prosecutor, and perhaps the judge who tried Mrs. Skinner, and ask them to speak up on their daughter’s behalf. If it were me, I’d keep pushing until I got the records changed to be truthful.
I assume they’ll be ammended, since it was found she never did any of that stuff.
Besides, one’s permanent record isn’t nearly as bad as people think. It’s basically a list of all your grades, and any time you got in trouble at school.
And until the permanent record is changed, it’s going to state that she was kicked out of school for months for poisoning the goodies at a birthday party, amongst quite a few other things Guinastasia. As you said though, it’s likely that the records are going to be changed. At least I’d hope so, and I also hope it occurs to the parents to fight to do so if necessary. What that Skinner did was beyond reprehensible IMO.
Oh, absolutely. I would hope that they WOULD change the record, or rather, add, “This girl was subject to a brutal attack by a person determined to frame her for blah blah blah…”
I’d bet on Munchausen By Proxy as well. This sounds very similar to the case of the woman who was poisoning her children so that they would be sick and she’d get to take them out of school and care for them. As I recall, one died and she was charged with murder.
it is strange and codblooded , not to mention an evolutionay sin, for an adult of the species to manifest such alienation from a child.
even cross-species, a generalized protective impulse is hoped for, (romulus-remus, etc.) if not practically guaranteed (I believe even Hitler loved puppies)
