As anyone who hasn’t already read my previous post in the pit, I work as a crossing guard. Well today at work something disturbing happened. While crossing a group of kids, a woman in a white sedan was screaming at them to hurry up and get out of her way. She was even inching forward threateningly, directly in the path of me. I tooted my whistle and repeatedly shouted at her to stop, and she finally did. However, there was a straggler in the group, and before she was completely on the sidewalk, she said, “oh I have to tie my shoe” and started to tie her shoe next to the curb. Well, this woman in the car screamed, “Move or I’ll run you over!” then she attempted to hit the girl! I shouted to her to stop, and told the girl to get on to the sidewalk. She got out of the way, and the woman took off like a bat out of hell, but not before I got her license plate number (3VKE176). I told my partner to cover for me while I went to the middle school across the street to inform the principal. He suggested I talk to the police about it, and put me through. I told the police everything I knew, and they sent an officer over. While I was doing this, a witness who had also seen the whole incident gave him his business card to corroborate his story with mine. When a police officer promptly arrived I gave him the number, along with everything I knew. I also informed my dispatcher about the incident. This woman absolutely disgusts me. I don’t care if she makes some excuse like “Oh, I was only joking” or some other bullshit. I saw what happened. It seriously looked like she was going to run this girl over. I only wish I had a photographic memory; beyond the license plate number I had a hard time remembering what the girl looked like, as well as the woman driving the sedan.
That is really sick. You held her up for all of 30 seconds, and she is ready to mow down a little girl? She doesn’t belong behind the wheel of a car. I hope the police write her up for a hefty ticket.
Well, they have the license number, and you have witnesses.
God DAMMIT, what a fucking disgusting excuse for a human being!
You shouldn’t be so harsh on the woman. Obviously she is a Very Important Person and was on her way to a Very Important Event like getting her Very Important Hair cut. Surely the maiming of a small, insignificant child is worth it?
This kind of incident always reminds me of this Steve Martin line, “I have a solution to the population problem—death penalty for parking violations.”
My advice to you - write everything you can remember about the incident down as soon as it happens, in case you have to testify to anything. You sound much more reliable as a witness that way.
