Pudd’nhead Trump nominates Neil Gorsuch for Supreme Court Jester

And here I had my money on Roland Freisler. Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?

Any opinion on the choice?

Did they do it TV show style with lights and balloons and contestants hopping up and down?

Yes they did SteveG1, and Trump was Marrrrrrrvelous as the emcee.

He actually held an announcement when he said he would? I fully expected him to cancel in order to build up suspense.

I heard on NPR today that Gorsuch is extremely well-liked and respected by his colleagues.

I’m glad (and surprised) The Donald didn’t pick Hardiman who sits on the 3rd Circuit with Trump’s sister.

This is a good pick.

This might be the first decision from the Trump administration with which I unreservedly and totally agree and support.

Then I am only half as horrified as I might have been.

Could have been much, much worse. From what little I’ve read sounds a lot like Scalia Jr.

Seconded.

Going to reserve judgement, but I kind of think this is a good pick too. I need to read some of his rulings.

Maybe this thread should be moved to IMHO. Pick 'em.

My fear was Cruz. This could have been a lot worse.

While I prefer a more liberal judge, at least he has the resume and credentials and is clearly intelligent which is actually better than I hoped for.

Judge Judy had the year already booked.

Sounds like he holds all the “right” views on guns, abortion, death penalty, funding of politicians.

Damn it, people are already falling for it. Better than we hoped for means jack shit. If he’s like Scalia, then he will fight abortion and gay marriage. At least a loose cannon might be okay with those things. The other judges would offset any truly wackadoodle stuff.

The main result is that we can’t fight to get rid of Trump. Because he’s our only hope so that anyone who dies won’t undo the civil rights gains. If that happens, we have to go to war with our own government.

If you are OK with it, at least the guy isn’t horrible. I was expecting the worst.

I’ll still reserve final judgment.

Why are we settling for “not horrible” ?

It’s the new reality.

It breaks the monotony.

What evidence is there that he is a pro-life candidate? Will he vote to overturn Roe vs Wade? Any pro-life decisions he has made?
