Pudd’nhead Trump nominates Neil Gorsuch for Supreme Court Jester

Well, he wasn’t going to pick a non-conservative judge any more than he is about to fix the deficit by bending over and shitting golden ducats. If you were expecting either, and disappointed with getting neither, you are an idiot.

This looks like an almost one-for-one swap for Scalia, but more polite and less mean. I think it’s a solid pick.

Shoving Cruz in the Supreme Court would mean Cruz could never become president.

Why?

Ex-presidents have become Supremes, but I’ve never heard of a Supreme becoming president.

I’m still holding out for Diana Ross

Why would Cruz agree to be on SCOTUS?

Because the alternative might be someone like Bill Pryor, who is less “Scalia Jr.” and more “Bork, except less sane and more of a bigot”. Because it gets worse. “Not the worst possible option” is all we can hope for at this point, until the democrats manage to get back the senate and decide that turnabout is fair play.

It’s a paying gig with quite a good pension plan ?

*Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has informed Trump transition insiders that he would accept the nomination to take the place of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, potentially cementing the power of the court’s conservative wing for decades, according to sources.

But another source close to Cruz said that while he is eager to help the new administration, he hasn’t committed to any new position.

Cruz hinted at his openness to joining the court Friday at a legal conference.

“Ted Cruz would absolutely accept it if offered a seat on the court,” said a transition insider.*

I guess we live in a a post-horrible society. We seem to live in a post-everything-else society.

When the Evil League of Evil is running the country, you take what you can get.

I still want the Dems to make Gorsuch wait at least as long as the GOP made Merrick Garland wait. This remains a stolen seat, and that should be the Dems’ position going forward.

Eh, this keeps the prior status quo. Save the filibuster for when it comes time to replace e.g. Ginsburg.

Don’t you think we should wait until the next election to let the people have a voice in this?

At first I thought these posts were in the same thread and was LMAO:

What’s wrong with Hardiman or is the entire third circuit disqualified due to the degrees of separation from Trump’s sister?

You mean like forever?

It seems to be an excellent choice, a Scalia for a Scalia. (Gorsuch very much modeled himself on Scalia whom he much admired.)

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by that- although he’s conservative, he’s intelligent,he’s not a lunatic, and he essentially maintains the status quo on the court, being a sort of Scalia 2.0.

That’s really about the best anyone not in the alt-right or more frothingly crazy right-wing branches of the GOP could hope for in this, or any Republican administration, IMO.

Well, in the GD thread, Bone said he wasn’t that pleased with the choice. So clearly he’s not too nuts on guns. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, that would be a hard sell. “Hey Cruz, do you want another run at the Presidency or would you rather legislate from the bench for the rest of your natural life?”

I’d rather have conservative, than bat shit crazy or Dominionist.

Absolutely. Give them plenty of their own nonsense to stew over for a while.
