what’s scarey here, tho are these folks who keep on arguing that, for example, a poll is a scientific study of such worthiness that we should burn all prior assumptions and run with these ‘new’ ideas, or that even though their premises, examples, arguments have all been proved wrong, they’re still certain they are correct. Self delusion must be such a comfortable place.
While I truly believe that my profile can only be improved by being mistaken for jarbaby, I have to admit that it was actually me who mentioned the Narnia character.

I hadn’t said anything in the original thread, because the points were being made with far more style, substance, and wit than I had to offer, but I must point this out.
Dogsbody, you totally rock AND you roll. The last person I saw with this much commitment to Truth and Justice was wearing spandex tights and a cape.
And to the other posters that tried so hard to show puddleglum the error of his ways, you rock, too. And I don’t care whether you’re gay, straight, bi, male, female, transgendered, androgynous, omnisexual, or celibate. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.
I have to pitch in and congratulate everyone who contributed to that thread, with one notable and obvious exception. It’s awe-inspiring to see so many people allied against ignorance, trying to bring some enlightenment to a stubbornly deluded dogmatist.
I’m proud to be a part of these boards, and the conduct in that thread was admirable. Whether we were able to change puddles’ mind or not, we’ve proven what we’re made of; reason, rationality, tolerance, humor, persistence, openness, and regard for our fellow humans.
I have to admit I found the whole thing highly amusing myself. It’s threads like that that keep me here. (Well, that and the beautiful visage that is Falcon… and, um, er, monster104. :D)

Jab1, that’s a distinct possibility. There’s the old line; Some of the worse homophobes are closet cases. But with Mr. Depressed Rainwater it’s hard to say. Maybe he’s defending so single-mindedly is because it desparately wants it to be true.

Well, I just had the privilege of wading through pages 3 and 4 of the GD thread (it’s like kudzu, growing and growing), and I found myself wondering, seriously, whether he was pulling our communal leg, clinging to his point with such an unshakeable death grip. I mean, come ON.
Has anybody else considered this? That he’s just jerking us around 'cause it’s so much fun to watch us foam at the mouth? Rattle the bars on Andygirl’s cage, see whether he can tease Esprix into taking an illegal GD potshot and getting a warning from a mod (answer: yes)?

Psychology school? Riiight. Three classes in undergrad psych have taught me what bullshit research this is AND why conversion therapy in the methods prescribed earlier doesn’t work. AND why it’s unethical.
Nope, ** DDG** sad to say, from ‘experiencing’ him in other threads, I have no doubt that he actually believes what he’s typing, and, what’s more, thinks he’s winning his point. I suggest you check out the racial profiling ones in particular - he’d drop in and quote some numbers from the FBI site re: # blacks who’d been convicted of violent crime, and assert that it ‘proved’ that blacks were more likely to commit crimes (despite the fact that violent crimes only account for a small percentage of reported crimes etc etc ).

It’s been a few trying days. Last night, as several people can attest, I was utterly freaking out.
