Better still (or, in addition) make sure to stick around until he’s gone (since you work at home anyway). Change locks if you feel it’s warranted.
Please let us know how it goes – we’re rooting for you. Personally, as someone who values privacy and personal space, I’d much rather live alone than with some potentially oddball roommate as company. In your situation I’d feel that Luna was all the company I needed. Perhaps consider it a lesson learned, though I suppose it could have worked out very differently – certainly not your fault. Do keep us posted, @JohnT.
Keep hold of this thought when your soon to be ex-renter starts crying and begging. You should never have to leave your own home for a drunk.
I hope the eviction happens with one small dramatic episode instead of a long drawn out thing.
I do agree with @wolfpup, I’d rather sell my current home and buy something smaller than have to live with a roommate to help pay the mortgage and taxes.
True. Not worried about him crying and begging, I’m quiet, but I’m an asshole. I once got so mad at my parents I quit the family business, bought out a competitor, and then launched bids at my parent’s clients. Some dude I’ve known for 4 months doesn’t have a chance.
You’re not an asshole. No one who loves – and is loved by – a beautiful doggie like Luna could possibly be an asshole. You’re a good-hearted person with strong emotions. I have no idea of the assholerly of your soon-to-be-former roommate, but you owe it to your sanity and safety to get rid of him.
As for “growing tired of the silence”, maybe all it took was a drunk screeching at the TV for hours on end to help you realize that silence is actually a precious and beautiful thing, a thing to be valued, not scorned. In my mind, silence is one of the major attributes of a desirable place to live.
I work at home now (since COVID). Two dogs. The silence is bliss. I MUCH prefer the written word for communication. But, I’m hard or hearing. My co-workers where hard to understand. It was frustrating for all of us I’m sure.
^ This, right here is the answer IMHO. Do take the advise above about protecting yourself and valuables. You have an abusive drunk in your house. Abuse comes in many forms.
As far as “growing tired of the silence” I think I kind of understand that. But I do have a Wife that works 4 days a week away from home but comes home every evening. I donno if it would be a problem for me or not to never have someone else around at all. But I really doubt it. We are all different. I sure as shit will never go back into an office environment.
My neighbor is replacing his fence, which forms one side of my fenced yard. My dogs are confused.
Our new dog (Ranger) is a wanderer so we have to go out with him on a leash or he will take off. But on a leash he won’t poop. I tried putting him on a long line and leaving him out but then he just sat there. I’m sure that eventually he’ll just poop inside the house
The old dog just walks the perimeter. He doesn’t care that the fence is no longer there. The path is, and that’s what he walks.
A few hours after I posted the above, he went to the store to get some things… and came back, empty handed. Apparently his family had cut off his funds.
The bottle of rum in the freezer was gone by Sunday morning… as was the remaining alcohol. He’s been quiet… like old times since then.
Rent is due tomorrow, that was when I was going to give him notice. However, he approached me this morning and said his parents were sending him the rent money and demanding he move in with them in Corpus. His father is wealthy in some manner (he has a ranch, but I don’t know the source of the funds to support it), his sister married a guy who’s employee ID # at Instagram was in the single digits, so he cashed out hugely when they sold out to Facebook for $1 billion. She lives here in SA and took him out the other day to buy food, but I think he is effectively cashless, depending upon his sister for shopping trips.
They are moving him out Labor Day weekend, but paying a full month because that’s what the lease demands. I will change my letter so that it is an acceptance of his offer, and that should be that. And, no, I’m not prorating a thing, thanks for asking.
People said to boycott it, that it was going to fall to crap, but I wanted to believe. but now, on CNN I’m seeing 3 week old ‘feel good stories’ on the front page and the whole “on both sides” justifications in stories show that the ship has an obvious list.
She’s going down; CNN is sinking. All the on air personalities I grew comfortable with? I’m guessing they’re dusting off their resumes. By next week I fully expect stories on “Ancient Egyptian Astronauts” how Erdogan found “The Arc” to be on the front page… maybe next to stories on “the Most Haunted BnBs in America”.
And in three months, maybe pictures of Batboy.
MSNBC is taking some getting used to, but when your ship sinks, you grab any life preserver you can and hold on for dear life.
They’re in a slump but I think that’s a tad dramatic. Their CNN+ streaming service failed which didn’t help, but I see stories from 10 and 20 years ago talking about the network struggling, and yet it’s still going.
Night before last, I’d lain down to sleep and my phone rings. I keep it on low now when I sleep. It rand again 15 minutes later. I see it was the guy I home aide. I figured if it was important, he wouldve left a voicemail. Next day I ask why he called.
First one was his toilet had been shut off again. He managed to fill it up himself.
Second time he had taken a shower and needed help putting his socks on. He managed to get them on.
My sleep is important and it wasn’t an emergency.
Okay, AARP. What the fuck are you doing? You “improved” your website games by making them so tiny that old eyes have trouble seeing them, and playing them is anything but enjoyable. There is no way to enlarge them (CTRL+, etc.) and complaints are being ignored. So I guess it’s membership cancellation time for me.
Yes, but Fox News was also struggling only a year ago.
And yet…
They all go through ups and downs. CNN is about to shut down if you decide to read right wing news sources, though they never stop saying that, but otherwise I’m not seeing any predictions of doom.
