Puns in band names - can you think of any?

Not for a band from Santa Cruz …
What’s the story on Mr. Boucher? Was there Biafran leader with a name that sounded like Jello? A city in Biafra? Or is it something I’ll realize right after I post …

I Spit On Your Gravy

Good point. So Ludwig Van Conversion wouldn’t work, either.

There is a local classic rock band that calls itself Salmon Dave.

Another local band was trying to come up with a name, and so asked the general public to submit suggestions. At one point the band was strongly considering one suggestion: Al Dente and the Pastafarians.

Grand Funk Railroad

Blame mr. beckwall if this one disturbs you. He swears it’s a real band name.

Crucifucks

okay… so was I the only person in the world who thought that inxs was pronounced ink-sis ?

:smack:
I seriously heard someone say it for the first time about 2 years ago and the ball dropped.

My fave band name ever, aural sects.

And there’s a local outfit called Cream Abdul Babar.

I’ve heard of a female Elvis impersonator who performs as Elvis Herselvis.

I’ll verify this one. It’s the band Steve Shelley was in before Sonic Youth, if I recall correctly.

My 1982 Trouser Press (pun!) guide to New Wave Records lists several bands called the 4-Skins, and one called Phil ‘n’ the Blanks.

There is (was?) a folk-singers band called the Motherfolkers.

And there’s El Vis , the Mexican Elvis impersonator.

We used to have a local Celtic band whose name was “Ireland Butterfly”.

The lead singer of Dread Zeppelin is Greg Tortell. He performed as Tortelvis.

nope, not the only one…although I only learnt when the show came out.

Although it always does take me a few seconds to click on to things like that, just prefer not to mention the inxs thing out loud.

Thats my girl always doing the stupid thing.

REO Speedealer, since changed to simply Speedealer following some strongly worded letters. I always wanted to do REO Speedweenie, but now it’s ruined.

“El Vez,” actually. I’ve seen him, he’s awesome.

Whoops, I was behing the curve on Speedealer. Okay, then: The Deftones.

There’s an “alt-country” group that calls itself “Hillbilly Idol”.
