A woman friend of mine used color rinse on her hair and the hair turned to a purble color. Any ideas as to why this would happen? Could the type of medication that she might have been on have been the cause?
We sort of touched on a similar question a while ago: Purpled-haired seniors.
I don’t think you’ll find the exact answer to your question in there, however…
Purple how? Dark purple, light purple? And by color rinse do you mean she used a home dye kit? Some of the dark hair dyes do look a deep purple color, I had purple hair for the longest time and got quite a few compliments.
If she doesn’t like it, I think you use an oil treatment to remove some of the color, but her best bet is call the mfg and go to a professional.
YMMV
Amature haircoloring is loaded with surprises. The biggest problems is that different shades have unexpected bases. Blue hair dye is actually based on green. Red hair dye is sometimes red-based and sometimes orange based… Many people have turned their hair nasty brownish-green by trying to make purple. You have to learn to expect the unexpected when dying your hair at home.
