Putting a child in a clothes dryer? WTF were you thinking??

According tothis article a 6 year old was forced to live in a clothes dryer.

Capital punishment opponents will hate me, but no adult who treats a child this way should enjoy life. Period

 …
:frowning:

I agree.

Hardly an airtight case.

QED - she was convicted. The judge felt that the testemony of the girl - now 12, was reasonable and sound enough to convict on.

Good enough for me.

I hope this woman rots - we don’t have the death penalty here, and I don’t support it, but in a case like this, I think Life-In-Dryerment seems like a fitting punishment.

Other sources (the CFCN and CTV News) report that the girl was kept in the dryer for weeks at a time, forced to live in her own feces.

Additionally, other news sources (CFCN primarily) have stated that the bio mom voluntarily sent the girl to live with her father and his new wife because she (bio mom) was on her own and felt child would be better cared for in the other house. However, this was said by bio mom in an interview with bio mom, so I guess you have to take it with a grain of salt.

Here’s the CTV story - it offers more details.

And yet “Children’s Aid workers, a doctor and other professionals” saw no sign of abuse? I remain unconvinced. Surely such a level of abuse would have been plainly obvious to those examining the girl.

Oh, you’d be amazed at the levels of abuse CPS workers won’t notice.

Not at all. But we’re also talking about doctors and “other professionals”. Look, I’m not saying this woman didn’t do it, only that the evidence thus far presented proves nothing, as far as I’m concerned.

Child abuse can be well hidden, QED, it doesn’t always leave physical marks, especially emotional abuse.

You’re absolutely correct. However, I suspect that locking a child in a CLOTHES DRYER for weeks at a time would leave definite physical scars. Don’t you think?

… only if you set it to “high”

JOKE!!!

Max.

I’m with Q.E.D. on this one.

The link says he convicted on the basis of the teenagers’ testimony.

I ain’t saying it ain’t true. But I have known a kids that age to tell lies. Even malicious ones.

But hey, maybe it’s just a case of shoddy journalism. Maybe things were introduced into evidence that they haven’t written about.

Well, this old woman kept her kids in a shoe and beat them. No word on her punishment yet.

I bet those slackers didn’t even bother looking in the dryer.

Well, according to the article: “Fontana, who heard the case without a jury, also didn’t get a chance to look at the dryer. The machine was removed from the scene long before the allegations were made, thereby denying the possibility of forensic evidence.” Hmmmm…convenient.

Well, how else are you supposed to cook an air-roasted kid???

It’s always convenient to get rid of the evidence before officials can get to it. Also keep in mind that Canada has a different criminal court system than we do in the US.

Don’t take this as a political rant, but considering Canada has a pretty liberal social system, there had to be something the judge saw to warrant the verdict.

I hope Santa gives her everything she dreams of the rest of her days.

Just trying to imagine being a six-year-old kid and being confined in a clothes dryer creeps me out. :frowning:

(Though I suppose one must ask how big was it – are we talking regular home-use Maytag here, or industrial-sized super-large-load dryers?)

I’m hoping so. But the linked articles say (or at least imply) he based his decision on the testimony of the children alone.

Yeah, I saw that, too. If I was the defendant, it would bother me (especially if I was facing a long prison term). But like I said, we’re talking about the Canadian judicial system. I guess without a dog in this fight, my opinions don’t really matter. Just wanted to offer my 2 cents.
