Puzzle: "Cinema Special"

This puzzle consists of a list of movie titles. The titles have been broken into doublets, and the doublets alphabetized.

Example:

AMERICAN BEAUTY
AM ER IC AN BE AU TY
AM AN AU BE ER IC TY

Problems:

  1. In light of the tough economic times, there is a special going on at the Puzzle Cinema to hopefully draw in a crowd with a good deal.

  2. Before being broken into doublets, an extra letter was added to the beginning and ending of each entry. These extra letters are not part of the movie titles at all.

Mitigating Circumstance:

These extra letters, when read from left to right will spell out the nature of our Puzzle Cinema special.

Can you discover the movie titles and the special?

Let me make sure I understand. Each scrambled entry is a single movie title with nothing else except exactly one extra letter at the beginning and exactly one extra letter at the end? If so, those are some seriously long movie titles.

For #1, I can make Aliens vs. Predator–Requiem but with a crapload of letters left over. For #2, Life is Beautiful but again with a lot of letters left over.

#10:N An American in Paris Trout T

It’s before and after, see? An American in Paris + Paris Trout

ETA: So,
#1:D Alien vs. Predator Requiem for a Dream O

and
#2U Proof of Life is Beautiful B

Presumably, the reference to “a special going on at the Puzzle Cinema” in the OP is in reference to this before-and-afterism (two movies for the price of one), so that’s what the leftover initial and final letters will describe; “double…” something or another, whatever it’s called in theatre lingo

Way to go Indistinguishable, phungi, bibliophage, and Long Time Lurker!

I was worried this puzzle might be “two hard”, but you all solved it fast.
