Puzzle time. Put these comments in logical order.

Forgive me, but I didn’t put [Game] on this one since it will have a finite amount of replies (and probably not that many anyway).

It’s a logic puzzle I thought some might enjoy thinking about and working on for a few minutes, though.

The rules are simple: Just put the comments below into the correct order they were made. Don’t read any other post in here until you’ve answered yourself.
The setting and comments:

[spoiler]It’s Mike’s birthday and his friends are throwing him a surprise party.
Mike was supposed to get home at 6:30PM, so his friends were all supposed to be at his place by 6PM, but by 6, there were only two people there so far. Over the next half an hour, nine more guests came (each one at a time).
By the time Mike DID show up (he was a little late himself) only one guest wasn’t there yet.
Judging by the statements they made when they first got to the party, can you figure out the correct order of guests?

Suzie: Diane! Peter! It’s been ages! I brought some guacamole…

Wayne: Hey, guacamole! Am I supposed to eat this with my hands?

Leslie: Sandy, I’m so glad you’re here, I hate being the only girl.

Barbara: I brought Coke, but Diane’s got the cups. Oh, she’s not here yet?

Rick: I’m thirsty. That salsa sure is hot. When’s someone with drinks going to get here?

Burt: I’m not Mike, turn on the lights, would ya?

Andrew: I’ve got chips!

Patricia: All you’ve got are chips and guacamole? Well, I brought some salsa. Leslie, why do you have guacamole on your hands?

Diane: I brought plates! What do you mean I was supposed to bring cups? Burt will bring the cups.

Dave: When Rick arrives, tell him I’ve got that spinach dip he loves.

Amy: Well, my arrival makes it just three guys and three girls so far…and here I thought I was late!

Sandy: Sorry I’m early! I hope it’s okay that I brought guacamole, although I forgot to get chips.

Peter: Hey, Rick! I didn’t think you were going to make it. I just saw three of the girls trying to park their cars outside, but no sign of Mike yet.

Mark: Sorry, I’m late. Is Leslie coming?[/spoiler]

I think there’s an error:

Peter is already there when Suzie arrives with guacamole.
Patricia arrives with salsa after the guacamole is already there.
Rick comments on the salsa when he arrives.
Peter says hi to Rick when he arrives. So Rick must have arrived before Peter.

Peter -> Suzie -> Patricia -> Rick -> Peter ?

There’s no mistake. Bolding mine:

So two were there by the right time, nine came in between the right time and the time Mike was SUPPOSED to get home, and an unknown number (although it can’t be that hard to figure out how many) came in AFTER Mike was supposed to be there (with one of those people not making it in time).

I had the same problem you’re having…but there is a correct solution. My hint to you is:

Reread what everyone brings. :wink: Write those things down, if you need to, and then look over the list.

…didn’t notice two people brought guacamole at first. Not until I reached the same conclusion you did; that there must be a mistake

That’s not the answer I have listed, although I’m not sure why your answer wouldn’t work as well, CT.

Well, I can explain why ONE answer you have doesn’t work:

[spoiler]Since it stands to reason they would be waiting for Mike at six thirty (when he was supposed to show up), it stands to reason they’d have the lights off at that point and, thus, the very next person in the door would have to be Burt.

But remember the directions say someone came in AFTER Mike already arrived.[/spoiler]

Okay, someone pointed out to me that another reason it doesn’t work is because…

Dave brings dip…so he must have come sometime after Patricia, who says all they have are chips and guacamole (and now salsa).

It doesn’t work. Nobody can be last, since every commenter has some other guest who comes after them. Unless you mean for there to be a guest who didn’t comment, but in that case we have no way of knowing their name, since everyone named made a comment.

Having read the rest of the thread, I disagree with the “correct” solution because

[spoiler]Peter says he sees three of the girls looking for a parking spot, but no sign of Mike yet. My solution above is more consistent with this, but leaves no room for anyone arriving after Mike. I think the “correct” solution would only be correct if Peter said he sees TWO of the girls looking for a parking spot. Unless Aspidistra is right but means Suzie, not Sandy, is crap at finding a parking spot. I guess that just about works.

I spotted fairly early on that two people brought guacamole, after thinking it didn’t seem to make sense otherwise, so that was a nice ‘key’ to the puzzle. Enjoyed it even though I think it’s a little vague :)[/spoiler]
