Q for Dopers in Germany around 2000-2003?

I need a native-culture assessment of something from Germany of about 2000-2003 or so.

“Robert T-Online.” Discuss.

This commercial - running translation, if it’s not too much trouble, and discuss.

Is the girl (“Edie”?) meant to be a Lola (Lola Rennt) knockoff, in the mold of RTO? Or is there some other bright-red-haired trope of the era I’m missing?

(Thanks!)

The girl is Enie van de Meiklokjes, a german TV presenter.
The wikipedia article says that she usually dyes her hair red and only dyed it Telekom magenta for the TV spots.

The dialog is pretty stupid IMO, the Max-Headroom-Rip-Off bugs Enie why some people still don’t have DSL, presents the Telekom DSL offer and Enie agrees that this offer is a great reason to have DSL. That’s pretty much ist.

I very vaguely remember the commercial and - yes - it’s just as annoying now as it was back then.

Does that help you in any way? Not much of a “native-culture assessment” I’m afraid. :o To me, it’s just a rather stupid commercial… .

Thanks, that’s pretty much what I needed to put this in context. The link to Enie’s WP page is especially helpful.
