Regarding the frequent references to QED’s “generosity” whenever he’s called to task on his behavior…
Some people sit at the front of the Church to feel closer to God. Others do so to be seen as closer to God.
His choice to pay for the subscriptions of others is viewed much less as charity when that “gift” is brought up over and over again as an excuse for behavior that is rude and/or condescending. He consistently posts as an authority figure for the board to the extent that newer people often respond to him as though they’ve heard from an admin for the board and I don’t believe he’s ever done anything to correct that misinterpretation. This isn’t a new observation by any means. And the consistent response at some point within a thread is, “well, he’s so generous and he’s paid for so many people and he’s single-handedly supporting this board through his kind and genuine generosity. He is the uber in altruism. All hail QED, the man with the answers, the man with the heart, the man with the wallet, the Man.” It’s sickening.
There are many who have sponsored others’ subscriptions. There are many more that have true knowledge to intelligently answer questions based on their education and experience. There are many who truly deserve respect and admiration, who don’t advertise it or make a big deal out of it, or indirectly or directly seek to be seen as an authority whenever possible.
And whoever said that people are jealous - sorry, but that’s just ludicrous. Jealous of what? Why would I be jealous of a pompous, air-filled ass?
If I ever get seriously Pitted, it will first surprise the heck out of me, and second, make me feel like I really belong here. {sniff} You have to be a heckuva lot more controversial than I am to get Pitted. Maybe I’m just jealous of Q.E.D. - it seems to come so naturally to him.
I don’t like to brag, but I hold advanced degrees in Necromancy and Thaumaturgy from Miskatonic University, but am unwilling to surrender my Charter status for anything so gaudy and arriviste as SDSAB…
But perhaps we should expand, rather than contract, our agenda of faux titles of pointless distinctions?
For instance, a member who insists that his mililtary service, however trivial, somehow lends authority to his/her strategic analysis would be recognized. If you spent two years typing at Fort Dix, you could be inducted into the Rear Echelon Auxillary Motherfuckers, or REAM.
Those of us who have gained a deep understanding of life by sheer stubborness in refusing to die will become the Lawn Police.
Lawyers who insist on reducing any argument to a series of *op. cit * and stark staring decisis will not be specially recongized, but those who refrain from such will be honored. Spavined Gelding, I propose, will be invested with the title Duke of Des Moines.

I have yet to see QED bring this up himself, therefore your point is, well, pointless.
I don’t get this 2nd pitting within one week. Can QED be abrupt, rude, and condescending? Sure. If he is, call him on it right then and there.
I have yet to see anything deserving of a pitting, and no one can seem to muster up the vitriol, let alone countless posters jumping on the train. I thought the SDSAB title thingie was dealt with last pitting.
Are these slow pittings of attrition? Because they are about as boring as watching rocks erode.

Since you picked a fight, though, this is as good a place as any to tell you that I think you’re an obnoxious busybody and I would enjoy the SDMB slightly more if you weren’t a participating member of it. Contrary to what your apparently massive sense of vanity tells you, I don’t really care enough about you to fling insults at you in unrelated threads, nor do I care enough about you to even think about your existence at all unless somebody else brings it up. In fact, with the recent bruhaha over Q.E.D., I had completely forgotten that you, too, post for free after having written a small handful of articles a couple of years ago. I guess I touched a nerve though.
Have fun with that whole delusions-of-grandeur thing, though. If it makes you feel any better, I find you much less obnoxious than Q.E.D.. I guess the entire SDSAB has decided that I’m anti-SDSAB or something. Whatever. I have no bone to pick with the organization or most of its members.
I don’t recall the charge, but I believe you that I made it. It sounds like something I would do, as I generally find you irritating. On second thought, though, I don’t really care about it enough to wish you gone from the SDMB. You seem to enjoy it, and I don’t find myself rolling my eyes at you that often; we must spend our time in different fora or something.
As for the dildo thing, I promise that if I ever do it, I’ll videotape it for your benefit.
It seems to me that two pittings in a week – both of which are basically “QED often comes across as a smug asshole; no, no particular egregious examples, but that’s the overall impression,” with many, many people chiming in on that theme – might lead QED to wonder whether the overall impression he leaves with people is that he’s an asshole.
Of course, it’s quite possible that we’ve communicated this clearly, and that he just doesn’t give a shit, taking the narrowly legalistic view of “I haven’t actually broken any rules, since, strictly speaking, being an asshole isn’t really the same as being a jerk, so I’m cool.”
'Cause let’s face it, if he realizes he comes across as an asshole and doesn’t care, more people piling on isn’t going to change anything.

I think I was guilty of bringing it up in a recent thread to defend you a little. So maybe some posters are confusing Una’s and my posts as something you posted.

Perhaps it’s a bit unfair to me to have hauled off at Hostile Dialect, and I’d like to apologize for my post from earlier today. However, as the linked post (and an earlier post by CarnalK in that same thread) demonstrates, there is some feeling that I somehow didn’t earn my place on the SDSAB, or that it was an issue of favoritism over EddyTeddyFreddy. Suffice it to say, I’m pretty sensitive about that, particularly given the hard-on that both CarnalK and Hostile Dialect seem to have for me. To me, HD’s post was a nameless dig that seemed to be aimed at me, and unfortunately, he’s got a track record that wouldn’t give me any reason to believe otherwise. Therefore, I apologize for the timing of that post, but not for the sentiment behind it.
Actually **CarnalK ** asked an interesting question. He added a little snark to the end of it, but if we took the names away and just asked…

This is interesting to some members, as a noted busy buddy (Hi twicks) these things are interesting to me too and without any underlying reason or purpose but sheer curiosity.

That post was specifically directed at you, actually. I apologize to the rest of the SDSAB (other than MsRobyn, who I wasn’t addressing, but who is apparently itching for a fight) if they thought I was talking to them.
Nowhere did I say the he had brought it up himself. As a matter of fact, if you read more than one sentence, and with comprehension, in the third paragraph it’s quite clear I was talking about other people bringing it up as a mutated defense of whatever his offending behavior was in a particular thread. My point stands - his having paid for the subscription of others is not a defense nor license to behave like an ass, regardless of who brings it up. (And how exactly do you think all of these people know about his oh-so-selfless generosity?)
I was not arguing that sponsoring memberships gave him a license to do anything, I was making the point that he is not responsible for other people’s posts. If they bring up his behavior, and you disagree with their opinion, take it up with them, don’t blame QED.
And I thought all sponsor my memberships were in ATMB, open for any to see, and more of a functionality, than anything else.
