Q's for those currently living in Suzhou/Shanghai (i.e. China Guy)...

I might be moving to Suzhou soon and I’m wondering about living expenses. What is the housing market like? Do I have to live in one of those foreigner enclaves with all the fences, or can I get a normal apartment? Do you know how much those fancy stucco American-style houses that foreign CEOs live in cost?

I've lived in various places in China, but never on the east coast; I know its more expensive than everywhere else, but I'm trying to get an idea of just how much more expensive it really is. Any advice/anecdotes would be appreciated.

I’ve been travelling and didn’t see this.

I really don’t know about Suzhou but cheaper than Shanghai. Find some property agents.

Any idea of your price range and then asking what that will buy you?

In Shanghai, you can live anywhere you want. From the basic 6 floor worker block to gated communities on a golf course. The gated places vary, depending on desireability. Can be about USD1k or more than USD10k. At least in Shanghai, there is so much choice that one can’t really make generalizations.

If you can be a bit more specific about budget, or minimum requirements, or what then maybe i can give you a more meaningful answer.
