Quake3Arena was the last of the iD Software games that I played the heck out of. I haven’t played much deathmatch since, in fact.
I was happy to learn that iD is bringing it back, in a free-to-play ad-supported model. The project was originally called Quake Zero, but is now called Quake Live. It will eventually be ad-supported, apparently. For now, it’s still in beta, but invites are being sent out regularly – I had an invite in a few hours after signing up.

I suck really bad, but I’m having fun and slowly re-learning how to play. I’m out there as Brainiac4 (shocking!) – anyone else playing?
I got my invite a few hours ago, after signing up around summer last year. :smack:
Map control is everything in this game and I don’t the maps. Gotta start somewhere.
I’ve played only FFA so far (dont want to bring down a whole team ^^), and as a UT-guy I’m getting owned hard.
Its a whole different style of play, but the whole Idea is nice. Quite the timekiller.
Palooka, I hear you on not knowing the maps. The only one I know well is The Longest Yard.
And some of the people playing are insanely good shots, especially with the railgun. Playing instagib, I’ve gotten a few two-in-a-row frags, and hit three-in-a-row (which does not have a medallion) twice, but I still miss a lot. With the railgun, missing is often death, since the trail points right at you and it takes a couple of seconds to recharge.
This is the only first-person shooter I ever played on a PC, and then Halo came out… I did have much fun playing Quake though. Can you play it on a mac?
I’d be shocked if you couldn’t. The original Q3Ademo came out for PC and Mac simultaneously, which was part of its appeal. We spent many hours at the agency staying late to play Q3A, with me the only PC user in the bunch.
