Quasi's Latest Alzheimer's Update

I’m very happy for you that you do not actually have dementia. Though it is very unfortunate that you spent all that time thinking you had EOAD, I think your posts here about Alzheimer’s disease helped raise a lot of awareness and concern, which could help those who do suffer from it.

Ummm. I thought I provided adequate translations for the phrase he asked about?

Does that not meet with your approval, twickster?

Sorry for my (our?) transgressions! No harm was meant, I assure you, and I for one, didn’t know about the rule, but now I do!

Quasi

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

We’ll see where this new direction takes us and hopefully it’ll make me feel better.

It does make me wonder though: I think this crap started a LONG time ago, because I can still remember some things (like turning left at a red traffic light, and getting disoriented in an intersection to the point where I just didn’t know which way to turn) happening to me as early as ten years ago?

(Or is that as late as 10 years ago?)

Anyway, bottom line? I know IFTH, big time. I just wish I could enjoy it, like those guys on Cuckoos’ Nest.

J/K;)

Thanks

Q

Quasi, you’re right, you did translate – but since I know you do lapse into German sometimes, I went ahead and included you. I shouldn’t have, since you were on the right side of the line in this instance.

For those who are curious, the rule is here.

Heh-Heh! I lapse into more than German sometimes, twicks!

Sometimes I get downright NEANDERTHAL!!!

Where’s Bertha Butt?

Thanks for the reminder, hon! Glad we’re still on good terms!

Q

Which is what I asked.

Me and John have an “off-line” search on ANOTHER phrase goin’ on right now, and I don’t think that man is gonna let me rest till I get him a translation which will satisfy him!

I don’t know where my friend keeps coming up with all these archaic German phrases and sayings, but I am bound and determined to discover their origins, and debate their meanings till my last dying breath!

It’s great therapy for me, and I thank you, Johnny L.A.

You’re TESTING me, aren’t you, you little HEATHERN?

No harm, no foul, and I’ll ALWAYS be y’all’s…

Q

Johnny, here are the two posts in question:

(apparently in response to something in the blog?)

So a) you just randomly started writing in German, and b) I don’t see a request for translation in the second post, just a list of German phrases, apparently a Q&A exchange.

I think it’s great if Quasi is helping you with your German – but either do it through PM or write an OP for a thread in GQ that poses a question that people other than the two of you will understand, so everyone can follow the conversation and other German-speakers can provide help.

twickster, MPSIMS moderator

No, I was asking for a translation into German of the phrase in the OP, and I quoted it in my post.

You should have read the English part, where I said (in English) that a word Quasi used reminded me of high school German dialogs.

Everyone could follow it. ‘Johnny remembers some high school stuff. That stuff he wrote is it.’ What’s not to follow?

As the rule has always been interpreted (on the rare occasions when I’ve seen it used), it has been a prohibition of writing OPs in languages other than English or for holding extended conversations in another language. My posts here do not fit those criteria.

I don’t want to fight with you, but I think you were a little quick with the mod-stick. If you hadn’t posted, there would not have been more than two posts of mine in this thread.

I’m not going to split hairs here – you started posting in German, in two separate posts, and it was not clear to the casual reader why you were posting in German. (If you ask for a translation into German in German, non-German-speakers like myself will not know what you’re talking about.)

I asked you to stop doing that – a polite request, no mod stick in sight, no threats of warnings – and you argued with me.

That, in general, is not the best way to respond to a polite request from a mod.

:frowning:

I was told early in my high school years (here in America) that my IQ was in the genius range.

I remember that.

I’m just trying to slap, punch and pinch myself awake.

And no, I would never punish a dear friend.

It’s inward! Always.

I’d more than likely love them to exhaustion!

Yeah, we’re going on from here, for sure!

I’m only 59, fer Chrissakes!

Despite the depression and despite what I may write in the blog (which is what I truly feel when I write it), I really would like to get better!

Thanks!

Quasi

Whoa, so I’m assuming this is actually a good thing (at least about Alzheimers, right?)

Good luck to you as always, Quasi!!!

All the best, Quasi. Really appreciate your sharing.

Good luck, Quasi, I hope you get this pseudo-dementia thing licked soon. You’re in my thoughts.

So many good things have happened for you lately: getting married to the woman you’ve loved all these years and who still loves you. You’ll both experience the joy of your recovery from those mental health problems-- because I’m sure that’s going to happen

I get the feeling that you’re still going to be working at explaining EOAD and pressing for more awareness of this disease that lies ahead for too many of us. Go, Quasi, go, and keep on sharing.

“You… ain’t been blue…” (we need a musical-kinda smiley, to indicate when we’re singin’! ;))
Thanks, MoodIndigo1, and everyone else!
God, I’m tryin’ my BEST to get a grip, but I think it’s gonna get worse before it can get better.

Stay tuned to the blog, and remember, PLEASE kiddos: It’s “reality-based”:

I no longer give a shit what anyone thinks of me.

I’m over it.

I have lived, and I have loved!

I have enjoyed, and been disappointed, but all in all?

It ain’t been that bad a trip on this ol’ bus!
Q

It sounds barbaric, but ECT has been used as a last result treatment for recalcitrant cases of significant depression.

Gotta get back to Azeroth!

Thanks

Q

(and no - no electro-shock therapy for The German Boy! If I can’t make it back on my own, then I sure don’t wanna come back that way!)

Quasi, it’s good to hear that you’re doing well and that you’ve a different diagnosis. Mental illnesses are beasts, but hang in there, you’ll do fine.

{{{big ol’ hugs}}}
