Queer Eye 2/22/05

Okay, so I always wondered what it would be like if the straight guy didn’t particularly want to go along with the guys.

Now I’m finding it just makes for really tedious TV. This guy is ridiculously petulant! I mean, the subjects do get to choose whether or not they’re on the show, am I right?

Yikes.

I haven’t watched in a while, and caught it tonight somewhere near the beginning. I initially thought I was going to hate the guy, but I ended up liking him a lot. I think one of the reasons I kinda stopped watching was I was getting tired of the makeovers fawning over stupid, obvious stuff - “I should change my sheets more than once a year? Thank you, Kyan, you saved my life! I’m ready to take myself to a Whole New Level now!”

This guy had some grossout habits, but he wasn’t so much resistant as he was hesitant to overthrow his whole life to be someone else’s idea of cool. The whole idea is to take the guy as-is and not make him over, just make him better at being himself, right? I’d say this guy had his own self figured out pretty well, he knew what he did and didn’t like, and he wasn’t a pushover. He was willing to make changes he could live with, rather than changing everything and trying to fit it in. And I’ll bet his “make-better” sticks.

Yeah, as the show wore on and the guy started embracing change while still holding onto himself, I liked him (and the show) more. He still could have been a bit more gracious at the beginning, but it ended up being nice to see somebody who wasn’t a total pushover.
