Quest for Fire (1981 Movie)

This film is easily in my top 20 list, perhaps close to the top 10.

I’ve long hoped for a remake of it, or at least another film along the same lines.

If you’ve seen this film, what did you think?

I thought it was great, with no real dialog, it still managed to tell a great story.

“Quest for Fire” is about as good as it gets. Don’t think so? Try “Clan of the Cave Bear” as a comparison.

I remember seeing it with my father when it came out. I don’t remember much about it other than a couple of scenes and that the film broke (or some other problem) and we had to wait for it to be fixed and started up again. I should watch it again at some point.

I watched it and enjoyed it,but was bothered by their people still living on that little spot in the lake with no fire/clothing/food after at least a year had past…

I’m old enough to have watched this film during its theatrical release. A very good movie and, for that reason, I don’t see a need for a remake. What I’d rather see is an American blu-ray release.

Ron Perlman’s first movie, I think.

I’ll forgive a misstep like that, they were telling the story of the Quest for Fire, but maybe they could have came back to find them dead?

I think there are some great story ideas about pre-history, just waiting to be made up and told.

I don’t know how much the movie going public would embrace such movies though.

Usually when I mention that Quest for Fire is one of my favorite movies, I get laughed at.

^ What do they know?

The only thing I find wrong with QfF is Rae Dawn Chong’s voice; too shrill.

Almost nothing! Except for some old stone tools, cave art, and genetic research, almost nothing.

It is an unexplored realm for the creative writer. There are some great stories in pre-history, just waiting to be made up.

Yes, some of the actors were chosen because of their simian appearance, as I recall from their being on the Tonight Show.

That would be Ron Pearlman and Everett McGill.

Pro: Anthony Burgess created the conlang for it. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Con: Rape. Graphic scene could be triggery for survivors. I cannot watch it any more.

Everett McGill went on to play Big Ed in Twin Peaks as the strong silent Western type, with little personality to speak of, but with a wife who more than made up for that.

Thank you! You just fixed something in my brain!

For years I have mistakenly conflated Everett McGill with another actor Bruce McGill because of their last names. Every time I would see Bruce in something (he’s in a lot of stuff) I would go through this little mental dialog, “I know he was in Quest For Fire, but I really don’t remember him in it?!”

Now I can move on with my life…

Yeah, but what’s not to love about her running around buck naked thru the whole thing!

Were they on Carson individually? Because I saw them all together on Letterman (Rae Dawn sat in the closest chair and did all the talking). And yeah, Ron Perlman has made a nice career out of playing unattractive people/creatures (Beauty & the Beast TV show, Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy etc.)

Well, yeah, there is that, of course. (Daddy likee)
