On the opening page of Part Three (p123), it says

the way home - a broken woman - a struggler - a juggler - [. . .]
Who or what is “a juggler” referring to? Is it Max and the way he “juggles” his food by not eating it all at once? (Not sure if that makes sense, but it’s the only explanation I could come up with that’s remotely plausible.)
