This has bugged me for years, but since I just had a dream about my old house when I was a kid, it is fresh enough in my mind that I remembered to post it here:
I grew up in Phildelphia, Pa. In the 1970’s we were treated to the thrill of seeing “Mr. Softee” ice cream trucks and “Good Humor” ice cream trucks. The Good Humor man, as we called him, had most of the classics, such as Fudgesicles, Rocket pops, Strawberry Shortcake bars, Chocolate Eclair bars, Orange Creamsicle pops, Push Ups, etc. But I remember the greatest treat of all was very much like a Chocolate Eclair bar, except that inside was an actual chocolate bar.
I can still see it and taste it. Very much like the Chocolate Eclair, with crumblies outside and vanilla ice cream inside, but encased was a chocolate bar, and it was great to get to it and nibble away at it.
Does anybody know what I am talking about?! If so, can you name this ice cream treat?!

I would swear it was not called “Candy Center Crunch” in my youth. Sadly, I suspect that the middle being “chocolate flavored candy” rather than real chocolate is the reason for the name change.
I associate them with the snack bar at the town pool, and don’t think I’ve ever seen them in the grocery store.
I remember it from when I lived in Detroit as a kid, in the early 70’s. I always thought that this was the chocolate eclair, and that the ones you get now with chocolate ice cream instead are merely cheap imitators. But I don’t really know.
Vaguely recall them too - they probably went the way of Zots. A Chocolate Eclair bar with a Candy Center Crunch. Looks like the crumblies have been changed to a hard chocolate shell.
How in the name of the Good Humor man did I not find those before at their site?
That’s gotta be it. I mean, I am recalling something from 30 years ago, so if I got the outside a little wrong, that’s ok. I mean, that is it for sure.
I don’t think it has changed inasmuch as I just didn’t nail the description perfectly. Yeah, maybe they got a little frugal on the inside and it’s less of an actual chocolate bar, but I don’'t know.
Wow. Blast from the past. Only thing left is to get me some. Hope they are still good eats!
