Question about audio enhancement software

DC Audio Mentor

I need some help on audio restoration software. I have a couple hundred cassette tapes and albums that I was to get on my computer. I was given a version of Audio Mentor, which was the easiest thing to learn because they have a Training Wheels section that literally walks you through from A to Z. I’m not very good at computers so I am the kind of guy that literally needs a tutorial for the tutorial for most software programs. Either that, or I have to have someone sit with me a patiently show me each step several times over.

I have since lost the Audio Mentor due to computer crash and I am looking to buy another one. My
dominant buying motives are:

  1. Must be simple and self-explanatory
  2. decent, but not too complex. I only need a few basics without a whole lot of bells and whistles.
  3. Free if you’ve got it, or at least fairly affordable.

Is Audio Mentor the best for my criteria, if you know?

I would use Audacity. Its a free (open source) audio editor that works well. Even better, for you, it has lots of FAQs, docs and forums. get it here

A buddy bought a usb turntable which came with Audacity and it was pretty slick. Plug in the turntable, push record button in Audacity and its done!
open source rules man! (OK that kinda slipped out from the sixties)
