Question about Brooke Shields

I usually pay little to no attention to celebrities and stories about them, so forgive my ignorance.

But some years back didn’t Brooke write some article or book about being a virgin and chastised those who weren’t on their wedding day or something like that?

Or am I remembering someone else?

Don’t know if was her or not, it can be a trendy thing to say.
Was she then?

She wrote a book way back in the 80’s where I think she preached virginity, but that’s when she was still like 17 or 18 or something. Still in her heyday and still trying to keep he wholesome image. I kind of remember that she had this kind Britney Spears thing going on where she was still publicly a “virgin” even after she was in college. I have no reason to believe that wasn’t the truth but I’m sure her publicists and studio people wouldn’t have let her say anything else even if she had been banging guys like Courtney Love on a bender.

Her mother handled her publicity when she was a teenager. When young singer/actress types have a parent handling their career, “virginity” is a common marketing crutch (See: Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, et al.). When Brooke started dating Woody Harrelson in the early 80s, the claim was quietly dropped, and so was Mom’s job.

I briefly worked with Brooke. One week to be exact.

I remember what you are talking about, and this was when she was still quite young - don’t forget, she started doing commercials as a tot - and she had the stage mother from hell.

To get back to the story - Brooke is one of those people you notice, even if she weren’t a famous celebrity - she is drop-dead-gorgeous, with or without makeup. The first time I ever saw her in person, I didn’t realize who it was and thought “wow, that girl has it all!”

This was before we worked at the same theater - by that time, she was “older” and it was shortly before she married Agassi. She was dating a different guy and to see the two of them together, well, it was “sweet”…and you could tell she was just a young girl in puppylove, but I had no doubt she really was a virgin at the time…how? Well, I happened to be backstage when her hot, gorgeous beau met her at the theater after a show (they were alone), and she barely kissed him on the cheek and blushed, and well…that ain’t shackin’ up territory. Plus, at that time, her mother was still involved in her career and every facet of her life.

Now about the mother - Terry (Teri?)…goodlord…I wouldn’t wish that mother on my worst enemy. An alcoholic bitch-on-wheels…but by that time, Brooke was starting to catch on and boy did we ever hear some, uh, “lively” discussions with mom. To Brooke’s credit, she always treated her mother with respect, but you could tell she was embarrassed and it was starting to be a big problem. I believe it was about a year or two later that Brooke announced that her mother no longer was her manager, and every person who knew her didn’t need to ask why.

So, yes - I have little doubt she probably was the ultimate virgin (not exactly by choice, but who knows) until the night she got married. Just my humble opinion.

I always thought the “Brooke is a Virgin” thing was brought about because she played a child prostitute in Pretty Baby and ‘they’ were all clamouring to prove she’d not actually “done it” on the set of the movie…
