I see them all the time, but they still almost always amuse me. Some are closer to actual language than others. Some are just… eyebrow-raising.
This shirt almost makes sense.
And I’m not quite sure about this one, either.
This one blows my mind.
You can’t read it all in that shot, but it says something like:
man is
with
three big
missions
you understand
a man’s true
feelings…
extra-ordinary
discovery
One for the philosophers, I guess.
Wow, thanks for all the input.
But really, all you native English-speakers, would you wear a shirt with a foreign language slogan that you didn’t understand?
Joe
No, but I do wear Engrish T-shirts that I picked up in Japan. They’re awesome.
I’m adding “Devoted Absorbedly” to the list of names I recommend when people go polling for new user names.
Well, there’s a huge load of weird over here.
When i was in high school, we had a group of Japaneses school kids come over, one of the girls was wearing a shirt with a picture of a tissue, declaring the phrase “blow your wad” the look on the English speaking principals face was priceless.
“I couldn’t decide between CRYMPH or DLECH,” said Chengdu high school student Mingmei Lee. “I know they both mean beautiful flower dancing in the wind in American , but I can’t decide what looks prettier.”
I’m so glad we don’t have these words in English .

Hey, it’s substantially less ignorant than thinking ‘Chinese’ is a language.

My favorite shirt I saw in Japan:

There was also the manhole cover, which I have a picture of, which had its brand name stamped prominently on the surface. This meant it said:

The Japanese are pretty fastidious about seperating their trash.
The Starbucks around the corner from my apartment in Sasebo had two trash bins:
“Combustibles”
and …
“Non Comburnibles”
