Question about Facebook

I’m new to facebook. I friended my sister (didn’t want to, but whatta ya gonna do?) Now she has filled up my page with game crap. Asking for bolts and chicken wire and heart and on and on and on.
Is she sending these requests to everyone or are the directed at me? I don’t play any multi-player games on facebook or anywhere else.

I have enough trouble paying attention to real world people.

I’m honestly not trying to thread-shit but this is the main reason I hate (and don’t do) Facebook.

She’s sending them to pretty much everyone. See the grey “X” in the upper-right of that post? Click it, and select “Hide all by <game>”. You’ll have to do it for each game, but it weeds them out quickly (or, at least, as quickly as your sister moves on to the next game).

Move your mouse pointer over any post you find irritating. An X will appear. Click on the X. You’ll get an option to either block all updates from that person (but not defriend them; you have to go to their page for that), or block all posts of that type. Choose the latter and you’ll be free of the Farmville and what not.

That’ll be a dollar.

Ignorance fought.

So I shouldn’t ask you to pick my pineapples?

Sure, you can. You aren’t my annoying sister.

The only reason I started a facebook page was tofind my brother. I did, but the rest of them found me at the same time. :smack:

Ok, hid all of her games. Now she’s poking me. What the f*** does that mean? It had an X too, so I Xed it.

That’s just the equivalent of “hey.” Some people expect a poke back, or a message or something. Hiding it is fine. If she bugs you later, just say you clicked on it and it disappeared.

Or you can be like me and install AutoPoke and never worry about it again. I WILL ALWAYS WIN POKE WARS!

You know you don’t have to see that stuff, right? I’m on Facebook all the damn time and I never see game requests or updates. Well, I might see one per game, lifetime. I hide them all and then I never see them again.

It means she’s annoying.

Sounds like you already knew that, though.

Only because I don’t like climbing trees.

Go to “account” in the top right corner, click for the drop down box. Click “privacy settings.” You get your “choose your privacy settings” page. Bottom left, you’ll see “apps and websites.” Click on “edit your settings.” The first section has two options, click the one that says “turn off all platform apps.” A pop-up will warn you that you won’t be able to use other websites and games and crap to stay in communication with any of your “friends” - check the box on the bottom that says “select all” and then “turn off platform.”

You will no longer get game invites or notifications or any indication that games or other stupid crap exists.

You’re welcome.

Early in my Facebook life I had a friend who played Farmville came thisclose to staging an intervention.

Go to her page, scroll down to the bottom left, click on “unfriend”, then unplug the phone…

I also don’t have a Facebook account. I just don’t get it. I can call or talk to anybody I want on the phone. I can e-mail anybody I want if I need to.

What really bothers me is people who will refuse to communicate with me because I don’t have Facebook. Its some sort of passive aggressive thing with them.

“Well, if you had a Facebook account, then you could reach me anytime!”

Umm, so your saying that if I call and leave a message or e-mail you, you won’t respond because I DON’T have Facebook?

X2.

Why do you even have an e-mail account if you can call anybody you want ? For that matter, why do you have a phone if you can visit anyone you want (pending a little travel time)? There’s nothing to “get” about Facebook - it’s an easy way to communicate with a large group of acquaintances at the same time.

Why would I want to do that? E-mail is cheaper than a phone. Travel wastes time and gas and limits person to person contact, no to mention impractical.

Why MUST I have a Facebook account? If one of my ‘friends’ insists that they cannot communicate with me unless its through Facebook, do I really want them as a ‘friend’ anyway?
