I recently recieved a replacement debit card because I ruined my signature on the old one. The new one has the same number on it, but different expiry date.
Do I have to re-register it with amazon, paypal etc as a new card, even though the number is the same?
I probably will anyway but I just thought I’d see what the Straight Dope wisdom is.
Yes, as it is true when you get a replacement card when one expires. Think of the expiration date, along with the three or four extra printed digits, as part of the credit card number. If someone tries to charge the card and has the old date it will be declined.
You can just log into your PayPal and Amazon accounts and change the expiration date. I just did this. (Thanks for the reminder.)
