Question about one of the characters in the Hellboy movie (no spoilers)

I saw Hellboy the other night (good movie). Was the actor in the fishthing costume the same that plays Niles in Frasier? Did he just provide the voice, or was he actually in the costume?

Thank ya much!

The actor in the fish suit was Doug Jones.

The voice was provided by… whateverthehell’iz’name’iz, David Hyde-Pierce, or whatever. Yes, it’s the guy who does Niles Crane.

Wha? Why didn’t they just stick Niles in the suit or have the guy in the suit talk? Why a voice over?

Because it takes more than a voice to bring a character to life. Doug Jones is very acrobatic and is able to move fluidly to give his character an aquatic feel. David Hyde Pierce has a great voice that is relaxing and intelligent. Together they made a better character than either would alone.

Although Mr. Hyde-Pierec has a very nice voice, I thought the voice over was very distracting, and it pulled me out of the movie moment every time he spoke with Niles Crane’s voice…

I would have preferred an unknown voice actor.

See, I was thinking that same thing, even stayed for the credits to see if it was true. When I saw Doug Jones credited for Abe, I figured it was just someone who sounded a lot like Niles.

IMDB has David Hyde Pierce as the voice, but (uncredited). Is this verified, or just one of those incorrect user submissions? And if its true, why was his voice work uncredited?
