We’ve got a small office – three pcs with WinXP on a simple network, connected to a “server” pc which runs Windows2000 Server.
We have MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) installed on each workstation C drive, and each worker stores data on the “server”. Our boss just bought a Tungsten T3, which we currently hotsync between two workstations so that both employees have an updated calendar schedule and contacts/address book.
Is there a way to set up our system so the Palm calendar/contacts can be accessed and updated from each workstation without hotsyncing?
I’d sure appreciate any advice or recommendations from folks who know.
I’ve got a T3 but haven’t exercised this capability. But you should be able to network it to your computers if you add a Bluetooth access point to your network router. However, this doesn’t mean you don’t have to hotsync, it just means that you can hotsync via Bluetooth instead of using a USB cradle.
This type of app seems to be something that Palm has in mind so you might try their tech support site. Although their idea is more like you’ve got one computer and a dozen Palms in the field, rather than one Palm and multiple computers.
Just a note, I believe the Palm OS drivers for the Sandisk WiFi card keep getting delayed, and there is supposition that they may not be out until quite late this year. I am not aware of any other manufacturer offering SD WiFi for Palm OS.
They seem to have stopped offering a free trial of FusionOne, although FusionOne Plus is available for purchase.
“fusionOne offers a simple way to keep your personal digital content up-to-date and “in sync” across multiple computing devices - regardless of application. With fusionOne, you enter information just once in any device with assurance that the information will be automatically updated in your other devices, including cell phones, PCs, Palm OS devices, and Web-enabled devices.”
Alternately, you can look at using VNC or a similar application to use the Palm Desktop remotely from one of the PCs and locally from the other. This way the updates will be made only to one desktop copy. Another workaround is to use a batch file to synchronize the .dat files from the \Program Files\Palm\Username\address and \Program Files\Palm\Username\datebook folders, but this will require some additional R&D.

Official word is that the Sandisk WiFi drivers for Palm OS 5.x devices is estimated for release in Q2 - 2004. Although dates have been pushed back often. Reasons for the delay are explained here:
