Ok. I just got Sum of all Fears on PC and it is basically Ghost Recon within the story of the book/movie. I have always sucked at these games but find them very fun because of the one hit kill system as opposed to taking 4 hits from a bazooka before you go down ala Quake or RtCW.
My question is about game strategy. I am currently entering a room with my team (2 computer controlled chars) in the single player game. There is a terrorist with a shotgun right around the corner when I enter a room in the first mission. If you have played this game you know which one I am talking about. Now, I cant see the guy until I round the corner, but he has his shotgun trained right on the corner so that as soon as I move past the wall BOOM, he takes me down. I tried to throw a flashbang into the room but he just yells “Take Cover” and apparently covers his eyes or something so it does not work. The only way I have found to make it past him is to run thru his field of vision and take a hit from his shotgun then turn and take him down with my pistol. There must be a better way to do this.
My general question is how in the hell do you clear rooms without getting taken down in these games? I dont like to sacrifice my teamates to enter a room. I like to try to do as much as I can by myself. In any of these types of games, if a person has a gun targeted on a spot you have to get past and there is no way around it, how the hell do you get past his gun without takin a hit and possibly dying? These dudes just wait there specifically to shoot your ass the second you turn the corner, which I guess is a pretty realistic way to play. But its TOUGH!
Any strategies to recommend?
On a side note, what games do you like better? These types of one hit kill games? Or doom, quake, unreal type games?
You got a handgrenade? I’ve never played the game so I’m not sure. You could look for a walk through online. Maybe duck in real quick then back out, then go right back in guns a blazing.
I * LOVE* the more “realistic” FPS’s. My favorites are NovaLogic’s Delta Force series of games. Out door enviroments that litterly go on forever. I’ve played the demo’s for Return to Castle Wolfenstien and Ghost Recon but they just dont “do it” for me. RTCW looks great, but like you said, its pretty quakeish. Ghost Recon played to slow for my tastes (you have to hold down a button to RUN!!!) and the maps are to confined. I dont care much for single player parts of games either. I’d rather frag 12 year olds. Delta Force:Task Force Dagger comes out soon and will probably get a fair amount of publicity because of its content. The single player part is based entirely on our special forces missions in Afghanastan.
Good luck getting through that door.

I dunno about Sum of All Fears, but most of these Tom Clancy games use the same types of equipment. Have you tried smoke grenades? Can you snipe through a window? Regular explosives? Shoot through a soft wall?
How about following the flashbang in? If you run in before it goes off and he’s still hiding his eyes, you could blast him and only have to put up with a temporary blindness. (not that I’d do that in a real situation, but hey…)
I’ll just mention what has already been talked about:
Frag Gernades work wonders
In Swat 3 you could shoot through the walls. I can’t remember if this is possible in the Rainbow/Rogue Spear series… but maybe suit up with a 12 gauge and let a blast through the door first.
As a side, if you like the more “realistic” games like these, you may like Operation: Flashpoint. I haven’t been so sucked into a game of this type in ages.
