I’m going off to graduate school in California in the fall and my girlfriend is planning to come with me. She’d like to get some work experience before going on to get higher education, and has therefore been applying for positions in my area. Unfortunately, she has yet to receive any invitations to interview. She has a BS in chemistry and a respectable GPA from a respectable school so we’re a bit surprised at the lack of interest in her, economy notwithstanding. Recently, she caved in and applied for a job near our home town; within a couple days she was called for an interview. We therefore think that because the address on her resume states that she’s from the Midwest, employers may be passing up on her due to the perceived need for relocation.
Is there a good, formal way to state on the resume that she will move to California in August? I have a family member living in the area and we thought about asking him to use his address, but I’m afraid that may lead to issues if someone decides to contact her. What’s the correct course of action for this situation?
