Question about the 2/6/04 Monk - unboxed spoilers herein

Okay, this was the second episode ever I’ve watched of Monk. Kudos to Tony Shalhoub for getting me to watch a mainstream, prime-time television series - something I haven’t done since Frasier first aired.

However: who was the individual in the law library that lured Monk upstairs and then tipped a bunch of bookcases onto him?

I don’t see how it was one of the “kidnappers” - they weren’t even on to the fact that Monk was sniffing them out that early. Or did I miss something?

You missed something.

When Monk’s “client” brought her grandmother out of the hospital, she was interviewed by a TV news crew. During the interview, she stated quite loudly and emphatically that Adrian Monk, SF’s greatest detective, was on the case, and that he wouldn’t rest until he figured out why her grandmother was kidnapped. There was a shot of a mysterious person watching this interview on TV.

After that was the attempt on his life. You can see the connection now, I presume.

…and said mysterious person was listening to an opera while watching that interview, as I recall.

AARRGGHH!! Please disregard that previous post. I was thinking of the wrong episode. Maybe even the wrong show.

Nono, I think you’re correct, sevenwood. If not, what you said certainly fits into the episode’s plot.

I think you’re right, despite what you said later. I’m pretty sure that’s how it happened.

By the way, anyone who hasn’t, grab the DVD of the pilot ep. It’s great!
