Question about The Constant Gardener (unboxed spoilers)

Didn’t know if I should resurrect the October thread or not – not sure when zombie status accrues.

Who was Tessa trying to get her report to?

I don’t know what the British High Commission does, but why didn’t she trust that her husband would be able to help? He’s not an idiot. She could have convinced him that KDH and Three Bees needed investigating.

She had the perfect opportunity when she yelled at him about the pesticide he was using, with the Three Bees logo. Are we supposed to think that he was more concerned with plants than people? If that were true, Tessa wouldn’t have fallen in love with him, I don’t think.

If she couldn’t involve him, then how about giving the report to another pharmaceutical company? Wouldn’t they jump on the chance to damage a business rival? Or should we assume that they’d try to protect each other?

The writers explained this by the woman at the school saying that Tessa didn’t want her work to damage his career, but that’s hard to swallow. What’s more important? The lives of millions of people or her husband’s job? It didn’t fit what we were shown about Tessa.

That’s the only flaw in the movie, that she kept him out of the loop. But if she hadn’t, I guess there’d be no story.

I might have to read the book. Haven’t read LeCarre for years, but I’ve always liked him.
