In the movie, when they’re showing the band in one of its earlier incarnations, they’re playing a song called “Gimme Some Money.” I know I’ve heard the song elsewhere, I think maybe in Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. So did this song exist seperate from the movie, recorded by someone else, and was used in Spinal Tap? Or was this one of the songs that Guest and company wrote?
This is Spinal Tap came out in 1984.
Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead came out in 1991.
All of the songs performed by Spinal Tap in the movie are original numbers.
The IMDB soundtrack listing for Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead does indeed list “Gimme Some Money”, performed by Spinal Tap.
