Last year, at the end of my treatment at the wound center, I was told to get a certain kind of compression stocking…it was a roll of just one continuous huge hose, which I was to cut to length to “make” stockings for myself. I’m now at the end of useful life for the stockings that were made out of that roll, and I can’t remember what it was called. I want to try to re-order online, but I can’t seem to google anything useful.
Do any medical Dopers have any idea what the brand name or even the general med industry name for this product might have been? It’s sized by circumference by letter (A for the narrowest, something like J or K for the largest).
That’s an idea I hadn’t thought of. I was hoping to avoid having to bother them over a year after my last visit, but you’re right that I should at least call and ask what the brand was and where I can get it.
Just wanted to thank you, picunurse. I did call the wound care center and was told that the brand name was Tubigrips, and that they thought I needed a scrip for it. I went looking online to see if I could buy them without a scrip and found them ($120!, but free shipping) and ordered a roll. Had no problems.
I can’t believe I didn’t think of calling the damn wound center myself…
Well, they’re a tube of elasticized cotton, and because of that, they grip your leg so you don’t need to use a pin or an adhesive or…I don’t know…a garter or something to keep them up. They work really well (I haven’t had a vascular ulcer in the last year I’ve been wearing them), and they’re much cheaper than actual individual fitted stockings.
What kind of compression do you need, if it’s something like 20-30mm or less you can get those at Walmart for around 20 bucks or so in various sizes. Just something to consider…
They’re found over by the Pharmacy section usually.
Sure, they’re not “custom fitted” but they seem to do the trick for me at least. YMMV. Just a (cheaper) possible thing to consider
Yes, I can see it now. Conference table full of marketing types. Binders full of research. "Well, they’re kinda… tube-y… tube-like… and they grip… I’m at a loss. Maybe we need another focus group… "
