Question for Republicans: If Trump wins the Nomination...

Capable of what?

The “Can/should Trump Win” threads are elsewhere in this forum.

Being a statesperson.

I don’t get it. At this point, the main opposition to Trump comprises Rubio and Cruz, either of whom would probably knock GWB out for the title Worst President Ever. In this context, Trump nomination is likely the least of evils.

Subject to change, but if the election were tomorrow:

Trump vs. O’Malley: O’Malley

Trump vs. Clinton: 3rd party or write-in

Trump vs. Sanders: Not sure

The hope part is this: We are talking about Trump being the Republican nominee, the hopeful part comes by realizing that if that is the case he will win by just having a majority among Republicans, as 538 reported that is not a majority of the electorate (currently it is really about 8%, yes that is his total about now when compared to the whole electorate) and then I hope to see several Republicans that will finally realize that their party has been overtaken by radicals.

I expect a Goldwater like burial in a landslide for Trump.

I would worry more indeed if Rubio or Cruz were the nominees, they would have a better chance to win, but I will wonder if a lot if the Trump followers will be sick of “what the Republican establishment did” to undermine Trump and sit on this election.

Why is O’Malley so preferable to Clinton? They have essentially identical stances and if anything O’Malley is slightly to somewhat to the left by virtue of being a Sanders copycat.

For me, Hillary is wildly untrustworthy and O’Malley, even if further left, is more-or-less honest.

AFAIK I am still registered as a Republican, and I will vote for Trump.

The Republican Party as it exists today is no such thing. It’s decayed too far to be reformed; a new party to represent the viewpoint of sane conservatives (as opposed to wackjob reactionaries) will need to be built.

Parties are people, and people change. Even if it is to be completely rebuilt, you will be building it out of pretty much the same materials. Being a lot of those Republicans who started calling themselves independents because saying they were Republicans was too embarrassing.

Of course, the first question would be if they have enough power to keep control of the party brand. If I were to guess, I’d guess they do but I can’t exactly explain why the Trogs keep slapping them around. Fifty Shades of Republican.

Do you think Mexico will pay for that wall? Or that we’ll deport millions of people, shatter millions of families, for realzies? Do you think he’ll target ISIS indiscriminately, including the wives and children and innocent neighbors?

Is it the swagger that gets your vote, or is it that you think he’ll deliver on his promises?

I hope he’s lying, I would think better of him if that’s so.

In 2000 I was a registered Republican, took one look at Bush, and voted for Gore. Trump is far worse. Being registered does not require you to vote for any moron who gets nominated.

What if Rubio gets nominated and Trump runs on a third party ticket? Trump or Rubio?

Now, Universe, I know I haven’t been a very good pantheist, but if you could just give me this one sign…

I hope he’ll deliver on his promises. But I’d rather at least vote for someone who makes the right promises. I’ll admit it seems far-fetched to get Mexico to pay for the wall, but I’d love to see him try. But then again, I’m a single-issue voter on immigration. If Bernie Sanders were the one proposing to build a wall along the Mexican border, I’d be supporting him.

I’m voting for Trump in the Republican primary. I hope he gets nominated. In fact, if he doesn’t, I will vote for him as a write-in the general election.

I will vote for Clinton in the case of a Trump nomination without reservation. For all the shit I give Clinton, she will be an okay President, maybe even a good one.

You guys, look what you’ve done with all your snark, you’ve browbeat poor adaher into raving centrism! The boy been Broderized within an inch of his life!

This is really it for me. Hillary has such a long history of dishonesty. Also, I know she doesn’t need my vote to win a laugher over Trump.

O’Malley, on the other hand, might need every vote he can get and while he’s way left for my taste, he seems genuine. I also think O’Malley would be able to tone it down once in office.

Sanders, however, I think would be on a mission and I think he’d cause economic damage. Thus, my indecision.

I knew it, for all your Pollyanna election predictions you’re actually a reasonable fellow!

I still think the GOP base will come out in droves to vote against Hillary rather than for Trump. If it comes to pass, that red band from Texas to North Dakota would remain intact.
