Question for those who don't eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

PB&J’s were a staple of my childhood, but even back then I’d rather just have a spoonful of PB out of the jar. Another person who doesn’t like the texture of the sandwich – mushy, sticky and slimy all together? No thanks.

I also like PB smeared on a banana or in a smoothie with banana, oats, and milk.

Peanut butter cookies are okay. I would never turn down a cookie!

I’m not very fond of peanut butter, unless it is EXTREMELY sweetened. I like Reeses pieces & Nuttter butters. Homemade peanut butter cookies are good if they are comparably sweet to a Nutter Butter. No go if its “healthy” tasting. I’ll eat a PB&J if its approximately 75% jam (strawberry pls), but I really prefer peanut butter & honey.

However my mom was anti sugar so I was never allowed to have a PB&J made with so much jam, or PB&H except as a special “dessert” (and she was always buying the gritty no-sugar PB, this was back in the day before they figured out how to make it smooth) so, basically I never got in the habit of eating Peanut Butter sandwiches in general. Now, I don’t keep peanut butter in the house unless I buy some for baking.

I don’t hate it or anything, but I wouldn’t ever crave a sandwich involving peanut butter or, even, just think of eating one.

Peanut butter is good. Jelly is good. Putting them together is a waste of both.

Peanut butter is great in lots of candies and cookies. The problem is combining nuts and fruits. In my opinion they don’t really go together. I really don’t care much for mixing chocolate and fruit together either.
So peanut butter cookies are great. Just don’t put raisins in them.

What about those of us who prefer Peanut Butter and Honey?

Just my opinion, but sweet red bean doesn’t have a strong flavor other than “sweet.”

Same for a bean pie (love bean pie, OMG). White Navy beans don’t have a strong taste. Bean pie is almost indistinguishable from a sweet potato pie once you add spices. Which is the point, because Nation of Islam founder guy had a grudge against sweet potatoes*, and bean pie was invented to replace Sweet Potato Pie at holidays.

*I always thought it was a “sweet potatoes are slave food” type philosophy but no, he just thought they were evil.

I like PB, I don’t mind jelly. But not together, please. I mean, I like pizza but have no urge to slather peanut butter on one.

I’ve smeared peanut butter onto cold pizza. It’s better than it sounds.

As for the PB&J issue, my favorite way to eat that is to skip the bread: I’ll drop a big old glob of jelly (preferably grape) into the middle of a half-empty jar of peanut butter, and eat it with a spoon. Shooting for about 75% PB and 25% J on each spoonful. Yummmmm…

I like PBJ, can’t stand PB cookies or any candy along the lines of Reese’s

I do like peanut M&Ms, but don’t seek out Snickers.

Not explaining, it’s just my tastes

I like peanuts, and peanut butter, but not when combined with anything sweet; snickers, peanut m & m’s, or jelly. Yuck, you can have mine. Peanut butter here is savoury, I don’t think I’d like it sweetened.

Incidently, I don’t like tree nuts at all, unless they’re ground to a paste and mixed with a stronger flavour; nutella, marzipan and praline are fine.

And yes, I realise the username irony.

Not ironic, just nutty.

Peanut butter and bacon, or peanut butter and dill pickle, please.

I’ve never eaten peanut butter with jam, nor can I ever imagine doing so. (Is there a particular flavour of jam which one must choose? Strawberry? Apricot? Blackcurrant? …)

Toast with real butter, peanut butter and honey is my go to comfort food. I also like Reese’s peanut butter cups but prefer the minis, which I can only buy at Costco, over the normal sized ones. I think I may be odd.

nuts with jam - no
nuts with honey - yes (Woolies used to have and almond & honey candy bar which was my go-to snack. Haven’t been able to find it recently)
nuts with chocolate - ok

Most recipes I have seen for Asian style peanut sauce include a small amount of sugar. That’s fine. I’ve made peanut cookies a couple of times, to see what they are like. They are not actively disgusting, but not that great either.

Nothing to do with my culture, but I don’t like either PBJ or peanut butter cookies. I just don’t like the taste of peanut butter. And I only eat peanuts above 10,000 feet.

My parents, especially mother, never served it to me as a child so I was not used to it. My dad did introduce me to peanut butter and I do like plenty.

Now I am not against peanut butter and jelly, I like it but can’t see myself eating it all the time. And for me that is the case with all types of food.

As an Aussie kid who watched sesame St as a kid, I was always utterly confused by the idea of a PBJ, cos what we call “Jelly” the USA calls “Jello” and that just didn’t work.

Once I learned that Jam was closer to the meaning, I tried it a few times. Bit of a Meh combination really, didn’t do much for me.

You want to try Peanut butter in a sandwich, try it with sliced hot salami, swiss cheese, beetroot, shredded iceberg lettuce and hot chilli sauce. Yum.

Grape is traditional.

This.

The only way I’ll eat jam/jelly/marmalade is on toast or an English muffin. I think my hatred comes from the jam oozing into white bread.

I will eat peanut butter and banana slices in a sandwich, but that’s about it for sweet food.

Nothing to do with culture, but I never ate PB&J as a kid. I would eat peanut butter sandwiches. In general I like peanut butter much more than I like either bread or jelly.

I always eat sweet with savory. So, I’m also excluded from that reason for disliking peanut butter and jelly. For example, I’ve posted a few times how I like breakfast sandwiches with a sweeter bread component and a meat- like scrapple on a blueberry bagel or corned beef hash on raisin or something similar.

Peanut butter cookies? Fantastic.

Grape jam? Now there’s another thing I’ve never heard of, let alone tried.
