Question for very tall men

 Surely you must have favorite charity or kickstarter you’d like to see some change thrown at!

He should try American Eagle. They seem to cater to the short slim guy.

Great suggestion! I’ll pass along to him.

6’5 here.

Eddie Bauer has tall sizes, so I shop there a lot. Rochester Big and Tall is also good.

Just to throw women into the mix — I am tall for a woman and have purchased a lot of tall stuff from Eddie Bauer too. This is particularly helpful if your arms are longer than a woman who is 5-2; which, since I’m 5-9, my arms are. It seriously annoys me that it is so difficult to find tall blouses for women. I quit buying them years ago, actually because of this problem.

No, I don’t go around topless.

You wash silk!

I’m 6’3", and it used to be almost impossible to find my size in anything, shoes included (size 11), in Thailand. I’d have stuff made (cheap in Thailand) or stock up on trips back to the US. The situation has improved a lot in recent years due probably to the greater influx of large tourists and expat residents. The selection is still not that wide though.

Dear Og, those pajama pants on Amazon were horrendous. Sheer and gauzy and just all over awful.

Shorts - where does one acquire tall shorts? The ‘rise’ (waist to crotch) in Old Navy tall khaki shorts aren’t tall at all. He used to love American Eagle tall shorts, but it seems those aren’t made anymore. (As a side note, if anyone needs 40 or 42 American Eagle ‘tall’ shorts, PM me!)

Found a pair Lucky brand jeans for $40 at TJ Maxx. 36x36, the rise is 13.5" (instead of 12 or 13) and the inseam is 36.5.

Make sure they say “lucky you” or “lucky me” on the fly, both inside and out. Those are genuine Luckys; the ones without the phrase on both sides are Lucky Factory and (definitely don’t look like they’d survive many washings)

My dimensions hate an extra-tall rise…I guess I have a short crotch-to-hip span, tall rises end up going over my navel, mom-jeans style.

Coincidentally, sitting here wearing a LT Nike running jacket that I picked up at TJ Maxx.

I’m 6’ 4".
For cars, we bought a Scion xB. It’s small outside, big inside. My 5’ 4" wife is comfy, and I have enough headroom to wear a fedora.

For many years, I bought my clothes at jcp.com in their big&tall section. In the dress shirts, I could specify sleeve length and collar size. In pants, I could usually find what I needed.

For better dress shirts, landsend.com is a fine place.

When I was going through my knee surgeries and rehab, I got some extremely roomy sweat pants and jeans from KingSize. My experience with them is that everything is way too wide (Hammer pants) except their socks, which are great (Wigwam).

DuluthTrading.com has top-notch, insanely sturdy and comfortable jeans, underwear, and shirts in regular and tall sizes.

For me, it was between the Scion and Kia Soul. Haven’t purchased one yet because I haven’t sat in a Scion. Kia’s warranty is so much better that I’m finding it hard to even test drive the Scion.

You defy all the tall stereotypes! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d heard about the xB being a great vehicle for tall folks. Hopefully he’s not going to be in the market for a new/new to you vehicle anytime soon though.

He said JCP was great until the last few years; we tried the Levi’s cargo pants and the fit is entirely different than the older pairs. Narrow thighs and seat, plus clearly much more “light weight” material and of inferior quality (and the reviews online point to these criticism as well).

LOL hammer pants. America is fat!

Jesse Pinkman, I must’ve missed your post earlier and I just now checked out Rochester Big & Tall. I see the tabs on the top of the browser as “Destination XL”, “Rochester Big & Tall”, and “Casual Male XL”.

Are these like Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy, from highest to lowest price points?

Edit: It appears Jesse Pinkman is banned so…the question is for everyone else! :stuck_out_tongue:

My father is 6’5" and built like Chewbacca. It was only mildly inconvenient to hunt around for jeans with a 36" inseam at JC Penney and Sears, back when Sears sold reasonable clothes, but the size 13 work boots were killer. (One of our cats had a litter before we could ship her off to the vet for fixin’. He spent a good month having to check his shoes for kittens before he put them on in the morning.) Shirts, he got from L L Bean and Eddie Bauer, who both produce heavy long-sleeved cotton and cotton flannel shirts that didn’t make him look like he’d shrunk everything in the wash.

The nice thing about it was that if you ever ran into loafers or house slippers in “XXL size 13-14”, you automatically knew what his Christmas present was going to be that year. It’s remarkably easy to hide such things from Wookiees, for months if necessary. You just put them under the lowest shelf in the closet. My (short) mother used to stash cookies away in the pantry the same way.

My pants are the same size though I’m 6’2½". Last time I went pants shopping was at LLBean.com.

I’ve had good luck with Macys.com. I’ve been mostly stockpiling board shorts (which go past my knees so they must actually be pants for short people) but I believe they also have khaki / cargo shorts.

My latest bugagoo is jeans. Apparently 38" inseam jeans that are remotely stylish don’t exist any more. I had previously purchased several pairs of Levi’s 514s, which fit well and looked good, but they haven’t had those in my size in over a year so I think whichever sweatshop worker who was in charge of making that size must have died. :frowning:

Damn! We have a whole buncha really tall guys here on the SMDB!

This made me howl!

I am sad to report there’s still a dearth of long inseam aka “tall” shorts. In our move I found 2 pairs of Levi Workwear tall shorts from his early 20’s and my (tall but less so) brother bequeathed him a pair of tall Aeropostale shorts he had deemed “not cool” and set for the donation pile (they’re still cool for people over 30, bro!) so he has 3 pairs of khaki shorts right now.

He did pick up two jersey “sleep shorts” from Penny’s (was going to try Macy’s if Penny’s didn’t work as per Giraffe’s rec) which are roomy and comfortable.

“Destination XL”, “Rochester Big & Tall”, and “Casual Male XL” –> anyone have the skinny on these?

My experience there (shopping for others) has been that the selection is two parts fat to one part tall. Plenty of pleated khakis in a 54" waist.

Bwahahahaha I howled again!

We did notice (some) vanity sizing in men’s clothing now. Some of his new stuff is LT and when he was this weight 10 years ago, he said everything was XLT. (225-230lb now). I really feel for the beanpoles now because - while healthy - he’s certainly not slim at 225.

Yes, like OneCentStamp says, no skinny there, everything I saw was for huge men, not 6’8" and slim like my boy friend.
