Question marks and other symbols

I was just randomly thinking, with a question mark symbol ‘?’, is there some formula for how to draw the official symbol?

If so I would guess it goes something like…a circle drawn from 9 o’clock to 6 o’clock then vertical downwards for the length of the circle’s radius followed by a gap a quarter of the radius then a dot or something vaguely like that

Do symbols or even just letters have some official ‘font’?

There are almost as many question marks as there are fonts. There’s no such thing as an “official” question mark, or any other character on a font. What would make one font more “official” than another, anyway?

And very few typefaces exist where the characters are built out of purely geometric forms like your description. The characters have to look balanced, both individually and in context, and there are lots of optical illusions involved. Even in fonts which appear to be geometric, the circles and arcs would look clumsy if they were indeed perfect.
