Question on scripting in threads and post counts

  1. How are people able to change the size of the font in threads etc… I’ve looked around and can’t find the code their refering to. Superscript?

  2. Someone mentioned this in another thread and it got me wondering: Why are the post counts listed under the postee? This, to me, seems to lead to confusion and arrogance on behalf of new posters and old. Why not just show the date they became a member?

If number 2 should be posted in a forum, direct me to it and I’ll do a cut-n-paste.

As always in this forum, thank you in advance (My vB coding is much better because of it.).

Chris

Do you mean like [sup]this[/sup]? Or [sub]this[/sub]?

Those are the two I figured out and it works like this:
{sup}this{/sup} and {sub}this{/sub}. Exchange {} for.

Yeah, post counts do make some folks arrogant, but if we didn’t have them, then people would brag about their registration dates. If we didn’t have them, either, than folks would still get arrogant, but without a number set in stone to point to. They’re also useful in a few other cases… For instance, if a person posts in the wrong forum, or commits a major faux pas, it might mitigate things if they were a newbie, not familiar with the board. One of my favorite sigs, by the way, was “Oh, yeah? Well, I’ve still got more posts than Cecil!”

Good point Chronos.

Thanks Soda. I was more interested in the small font I see posted some times. But yours was a question I was wondering too.

For general information about how this board works and vB coding in particular, please see vB Codes Explained and Frequently Asked Questions.

Please note that this is vB boilerplate and may not apply 100% to everything in every situation on this board. (We’ll get it updated one of these fine days.)

[sub]But if a post is written entirely in {sub} or {sup}, then it looks like small font, right? Like this one.[/sub]

Thanks guys/gals.

I’m really not up to speed on code things. Never done it outside of my old Apple ][e.

I appreciate you walking me through it.

Soda, I don’t know you, but I like ya. Thanks, I think I get the superscript now.

Now, (I see that smirk on your face) another question.

When quoting someone else, how do you get their name included in the quote. That is, I sometimes run into threads that say within the quote, ‘originally posted by…’.

I’ve been screwing around with preview and whatnot, but, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to do it. I’ve tried any number of codes listed, but nothing seems to work for me.

I’ve done the {quote}{quote}post{quote}reply{quote}, replaced by etc., and cap. letter’s. But I’m trying to show others’ who posted it and who responded and can’t put it in my post without it looking wrong.

Again, thank you,
Chris

Try the little “quote” button at the bottom of each post and see what happens!

What ren said if you hit the reply with quote you will get the name of the poster . This is a recent upgrade and wasn’t there when the software was changed(it was there with the old software however).

Also people sometimes just use the quote codes and c&p what they want in between them and that doesn’t give any name .

Thanks Guys.

** Don’t forget the link. Here’s how to post one, Part Next**

It’s amazed me, especially the part about making a link to a particular thread, and posting in blue letters without a thread.
