Question re Macbook and Facebook

I have a Macbook which I love. I just joined Facebook and want to upload some pics there into an album. I go into “My Photos” and there’s a handy dandy application with which to do so. So, I try that. Repeatedly, iPhoto just shuts down when I click on the Facebook link. I sent a report to Mac, but is says they won’t respond to me personally. Great.
I have OS X–not sure if it’s 10.3 or 10.4. Where can I find that out on my Mac? I bought it last June (06). I have iPhoto, at least 10.5 (not sure what the version numbers are for either Tiger or iPhoto). And if I’ve got the wrong ones, how do I get the right ones (and please let it not be, buy a new computer!).

Also, if I drag the app to trash–does that get it off my harddrive? I can’t find the app in Applications or on my harddrive now, so I guess I’m ok(?).

And finally, HOW do I get my pics onto Facebook?
I’m not so great with computers, as you all can tell. Thanks for your help.

Is this any help?

you know you don’t have to use that application right? You can just browse and select the files manually, until you’re able to get the handy app working.,

No, I don’t know. I can’t seem to find a way to get my photos over to Facebook? I know I can select the files/pics manually; I’ve done so for flickr and it works fine.

 Consider me as mentally challenged when dealing with this kind of thing.

 Whoa. I’m not sure what kind of site that is! (but I’m not going to use in case it gives me an STD…)

Huh?

Your link doesn’t have pink panties around a model’s legs, with lipstick stains pressed here and there? The site that I link to does. Is there something usual in amongst the suggestive images? I appreciate the help, but I’m leery of using that site… (I once sent porn to not only my parents but also a doctor at work by accident–one letter difference in the url–mostly irrelevant story, but I am gun-shy of using sites that look like the one you linked to).

Ok, I went and checked it out. Unfortunately, it uses the same linkage that Facebook recommends–the one that shuts down my iPhoto with no warning…

But thanks, anyway. I’m seeing pink, now.

It seems kinda slutty for a website.

Well for an interface/app suggestion site it does.

Would you feel better if I just provided the URLs of the software they recommend?

We’re in the 21st Century - you’d better get used to lots of tacky websites…

I am but an young and naive internet dilettante. Your risque reference flies right over my head, eleanorigby.

Does it actually crash (unexpectedly quit) iPhoto?

If so, there’s a crash log that would be helpful. You can get to it using the Console in Applications->Utilities. Go to File->Open Quickly->/Library/Logs->Crash Reporter->iPhoto crash log.

Copy and paste the stuff having to do with the thread that crashed.

Yup. iPhoto crashes when I click on the facebook button provided by…iPhoto! Lovely. First time I’ve hit a glitch in my Mac.
Why do I have to put up with vulgarity? The internet seems large enough to suit all tastes. (not meant to be churlish, just sayin’). I do appreciate your help.

Inner Stickler–I guess I’d use that site for all those “private” files that I don’t have…

+1 this plugin: http://developers.facebook.com/iphoto/

You can try dragging photos onto your desktop from iPhoto, then going into My Photos in Facebook to upload them all. I’m surprised your Internet browser isn’t shutting down, too. That seems to be Mac’s thing. Shutting stuff down suddenly.

iPhoto isn’t providing that link, it’s a 3rd party developer. First thing I’d do is run software update from your system preferences… make sure you have the latest versions of the software which may fix the bugs right there.

In fact, if you haven’t run it before, run it once, then run it again and make sure there are no updates to your updates. =) Latest versions should help fix bugs.

Also make sure you have the latest version of the facebook plugin. Redownload and reinstall.

Also make sure you regularly (once a week or so) repair permissions. Open your applications folder, then your utilities folder inside that, then run Disk Doctor and select your hard drive, repair permissions.

Takes maybe a minute and is good preventative maintenance to do.

Give those a shot and see if they fix your problem.

That’s what I thought–that I didn’t have the up to date versions of iPhoto etc.

I have never done the disk doctor thing, but will try it tonight. thanks!

I have iPhoto6, so I think I’m ok there–don’t know what version of OS X I have, though…
