Question Re: Shortening of Nicknames by Me?

IRL, my buddies call me Rugger, and my family and girlfriends call me Santo*. It’s partially because I’ve played football and rugby for the last fifteen years or so, so my teammates call me by my last name. It’s also because, when I was the co-captain of my college rugby team, my other captain’s name was also Santo**. You can call me either, both, or SR if you’d like, but I generally look for the double “gg” when scanning for places I’m referred to in a thread.

Actually, my real name equivalents.
Technically, Pygmy
*, as that was my old user name and the name of my college club.

:dubious:

You really want to be called S’kat?

May want to rethink that one.

Why do you hate Mel Tormé? :stuck_out_tongue:

Some nicks wouldn’t sound right shortened, I know. Just making sure that those which can be wouldn’t ruffle any feathers!

Q

I know, I know. But it’s short for Silvercat (that being my default username).

I’d just use STG, if that’s okay?

Kemi, that won’t ever happen (being mad and calling you “fool”) :

Rugger sounds good to me!

I’d use Q.E.D. in it’s entirety and yeah, you’re right: I’m not as full of piss and vinegar as I once was, so whatever anyone prefers is gonna be fine with me.

Looks like y’all are pretty loose with it all, so if I trip up, just let me know. Thanks, y’all are some “quite cool” people ;).

Q

Catcher in the Rye, actually. Hazle is the protagonist in old Phoebe’s stories.

Done and done.

Curse you for making me go look stuff up! I was considering starting a thread recently in IMHO asking how many people keep a window open with Wikipedia in one tab and a dictionary in the other to make hanging out on the Dope easier.

Me! Well, not the whole time, but I usually have at least one reference open whenever I leave the Dope.

I’d prefer Pye, but the default seems to be Mags, which is the RL nickname of a friend and confuses me.

It’s reminiscent of being summoned by one’s full name by an angry parent: “Thomas T. Tildrum, get in here right now and explain yourself!”

Quasimodem – may I call you Qui’m? – – I think most people aren’t bothered by a shortened name, if it doesn’t look like the shortening was done with unfriendly intent.

Better check with the MMP for nicknames for [del]those[/del] us guys! They call me Rebo.

I get the warm fuzzies when anyone calls me Auntie.

Look you, I said what I prefer! :stuck_out_tongue:

Nay, s’cool. It just always takes me a moment to connect those initials with myself.

That’s exactly it. My mother used to bellow all four of my names in just that way.

Have at it. **Anaamika **is a lot to write, I understand. I’ll go to the other thread and list what I like it shortened to, but honestly, I am not picky.

I live in hope of the day that I’m a regular fixture enough to warrant a nickname. I guess I might be tum? Of course my real name is the short and sweet T.R. so people can feel free to call me that, too.

Is it ok if we capitalize it at the beginning of a sentence, or do you prefer that tum stay lowercase? Just taking notes for future exchanges.

(I think people go back and forth between IS and Stickler for me. I prefer IS, but it’s not a big deal.)

Mine always get shortened to “Tro,” because if it doesn’t people end up spelling it trosisp, trosicp, trosicps, or some other weird juxtaposition of the C and S typically. And, Tro is easier.

Not that I was mentioned in the OP or anything, haha.

I’m completely without any strong opinion on the matter of capitalization. But I do have a smile on my face that you asked!

Here I’m been reading it as TacoCrisp. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t call me Chi, I ain’t no tea.
Call me M-ra (Em-rah), 'cuz that’s me!

Qui’m sounds kinda SEXY! So I looked it up:

<a href=“Definition of quim”>quim</a>

So yeah, that’s fine, 'cause if we are what we eat, I guess that makes me a pussy!

Quasi (Qui’m)
