What do you want to be called on here?

… other than your screen name, that is.

Some people have long screen names. (No, no, I’m not suggesting those of you with short screen names are suffering some kind of screen name envy.) Most of the time, when people reply to them or refer to them in posts, they cut and paste the entire name.

So my question is this: How would you like people to refer to you/call you, other than your screen name?

For me, I have no problem in the world with anyone calling me dan or Dan. “theman” might make me look at the post funny, but I won’t immediately think you mean me.

The only time this would be a problem for me would be if someone said “Dan” in a thread in which I hadn’t participated. I couldn’t even find it in a vanity search, then!

My liege always works for me.

You can call me Al.

Gee, I kill me. Call me tool, lights, anything but the dreaded “light**n[b/]intool.”

Not that anyone has tried to call me a name with screwed up coding in the middle, but you never know.

Read that, “lightningtool.” sigh

My friends (and they are legion) call me “twicks.”

Queen Eilsel, Ruler of all Dopemania

See, call me wacky, call me crazy, call me a pervert, but I think “Queen Eisel, Ruler of all Dopemania” is a tad longer than “Eisel,” and therefore it’s not likely to be used as a naming convention when referring to you on here.

But hey! What do I know? :smiley:

“Old what’s-his-name. You know, the guy with all those unbelievably profound and erudite posts.”

Or not… :slight_smile:

It’s longer than Eilsel, too. :smiley:

Since my name is only pronounceable if you really work at it, I’ve helpfully shortened it to “koee.”

You can call me Sub, but I won’t be able to catch it in a vanity search.

Yeah, that too.

See the problem? :wink:

Now, here’s a name we can use an example: Mama Tiger.

We could cut and paste Mama Tiger (or type it in), or we could just call her Mama.

If she wanted, of course.

<obligatory Monty Python reference>

I want to be called…Loretta!

</oMPr>

Okay then…

Queen
M’lady
Her Highness…

That’s fine too…

Apart from my username (and derivations thereof), some people whom I’ve gotten to know on a more personal basis call me by my given name or, again, a derivation of it. If I feel like it, I’ll tell the person my name in email (though in less … cordial discourse I’ll sometimes sign as my username), or sometimes I’ll sign my posts using my actual name. Haven’t done so in a while though.

I’m weird about one thing, though. Unless I tell someone on this board my given name, I like to keep it to SNs. And unless I accept their use of my nickname (that of my given name), I tend to prefer to keep things either to my SN or my full first name. It’s a sort of a personal bubble thing, extended to the online medium.

I shall call you … Eduardo.

iampunha is a good example as well. People have been known to call iampunha by a shortened name, punha, and I don’t recall any threats of retribution.

Just so long as no one calls her **“puntang”[/b}

iampunha is a male, though.

(Aha! That made up for me misspelling Eilsel’s name twice, right?)

SWL…still…so no one calls HIM “puntang”

LOL LOL

…i need more wine…
