Questions on posting pictures on the net

I can look up the various sites that allow uploads of photo’s but I wanted a quick primer on what in involved. do I need FTP software? Do they all allow switches for public and private viewing?

You don’t need any software, and all of the ones I know about have privacy options, ranging from “all of my pictures are public let anyone browse them if they find my account” to “no one can see any of my pictures but me.”

I like photocucket, though flickr seems to be the most popular.

Thanks.

Followup question, can I remove them if they’re not meant for long term viewing?

Yes, I use Flickr and do this frequently.

You folks probably saved me hours of looking through each site.

There’s a really nice website that I like for sharing photos publicly (i.e.) message boards when I like to still remain semi-anonymous.

www.imgur.com is a really easy website to use (no registration required, some benefits if you do), it automatically strips out all exif data from the pic, and is easy to link to.

I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I use Photobucket because I can access it from my work PC. I can’t do that with Flicker. Walgreens allows on line albums, mainly so you can have prints made at one of the stores, but I don’t know how large their space allocation is.
