Quick - bar "The Gates"!

Given the popularity of so many things vampish around here, I assume I’m not the only Doper who made the mistake of watching this last night.

Don’t see how this could turn into anything worth watching. Let’s see, we’ve got witches, werewolves, and vamps living in a modestly sized gated community which is large enough to have its own school system an thriving business district. And the top cop is the least likeable character around.

I’d suggest that they play up the “housing for people desiring privacy” angle, add in corporate titans, mafiosos, and drug kingpins, and make the vamps et al have to deal with some REAL monsters!

I’m still giving it a chance. It is hard to have the premier of a drama be great - there is too much to introduce. It wasn’t nearly as bad as “Happy Town”

M. Night Shamalamadingdong does Eureka.

Eureka or Desperate Vampwives

I watched about 20 minutes of it and found it to be a hackneyed, TV family drama with sanitized vampires and no edge.

It’s just okay. I can’t see it lasting a whole season.

Was this one of the networks trying to cash in on the Vampire craze? If so, I can see how it would be a disaster.

I just started watching Moonlight on DVD. It didn’t last long on network TV but it’s much more enjoyable than The Gates.

I made the mistake of watching the first few minutes of this after making the mistake of watching Scoundrels, which came on before it.

Muy crapola, I think – both of them.

I describe it as 90210 crossed with Dark Shadows.

It’s “summer burn off theater” it isn’t meant to be good, it isn’t meant to be remembered past this August (it’s hardly meant to be remembered while you’re watching it).
