When I highlight a word and right click to get Search Google for “”, it opens that in a new tab, but I’m also taken to that new tab. I don’t want to be. I want to read it later. My work computer does this with Firefox already and the settings are the same. Under Options / Tabs, the “When I open a new link, switch to it immediately” is unchecked.
How do I get FF to not take me to the new tab when doing a highlight Google search?
Yeah, new versions and mysteriously changed preferences are always annoying. It’s like there’s a secret Firefox Cabal that sits around and dreams up subtle new ways to annoy users.
I know you’re being facetious, but I want to tell you what really happens: the coders are just out of touch with the rest of the users, and the head ones even moreso. I keep trying to convince them to go to a model where they propose features and ask people if they want them, but they won’t.
Your best bet is to make sure and use that Feedback option in the Help menu to tell them the things you like. And to hound them on the bug forums if they do something stupid.
I’ve seen enough bug reports and “wontfix” feedback threads to know that they don’t really care. They want something one way, they’ll have it. So be it. You get what you pay for.
