Firefox currently opens some sites in a new window instead of a new tab. I looked through the options and couldn’t find an option to stop it from doing that. I couldn’t find the option so I checked to see the help if there was one. The help section shows it as an option under advanced options. However when I go to advanced options the option to force websites to open in a new tab simply isn’t there . I am looking the correct spot but my advanced options is simply one short of what the help has listed. Any other Dopers have this problem?
At least in my Firefox version, it is possible to right-click a link and choose to open it in a new tab, and this always works. Clicking with the center mouse key will do the same. Then again, I’m not 100 % sure whether this is what you’re asking. If what you want to know is how you can set this as default setting so Firefox opens every link in a new tab without telling it to do so, then I don’t know; I looked around in the Options menu and the help section, but didn’t find it.
Some websites when you click on a link it opens up in a new window instead of a new tab. If you go to help->options->advanced you should see a option that says Force links that open new windows to open with an option for new tab or same tab as the link. But when I go to the actual option menu that it shows in the help that option is not there.
I think it might have to do with how the webpage (the link itself) was originally set up, and not to do with Firefox. Could be wrong though.
You are right but under in the “help” section it lists an option of forcing those links to open in a new tab.
Are you using any extensions (in particular, the TabBrowser Extension)? I think TBE moves or replaces some of your Preferences items. If so, check under the TBE preferences for an appropriate item, probably under TBE>Use Tab>Links.
Hrm I installed the tab extension and it is now doing what I want it to so my problem is solved. However that wasn’t the problem before just that the option wasn’t there. Wierd but whatever its working now. Thanks
