Quick, Giraffe, before some asshole locks this.

We are now in the Pit so I can respond to this by saying what I really and truly think. What in the holy hell do you bring to these boards?"

I was one who got fed up with jesse. I’ve been here since, what, 2002? Something like that. And I’ve seen dozens of these idiots come through. They follow the same pattern every single time. Every time. I knew he was doomed as soon as he started the “pit the mods for closing my nonsense within a week of joining” thread. That’s a clear sign he was headed for a flameout sooner or later. I applaud the decision to cut him off early. And then there’s the inevitable debate about whether the banning is justified.

I used to find these people amusing, as others do. I don’t know when I lost that, but I just find them unbelievably tiresome now.

If this is the primary criterion, then I have a list. <tap tap>

No, a salad.

I admit that I reported the pit thread where he announced his intention to start a new WTC debate thread, but he that was too busy at the moment, but really, we should all await the momentous start of his new thread, 'cause it was really important that we know that he was going to start a new thread when he had the time, even though it’s an absurd topic that’s been rehashed a gazillion times and currently has an 8 or 9 or more page thread running currently in GD.

I’m trying to think of a more useless topic for a thread than announcing in the Pit that you’re too busy to start a thread, but I’m having a hard time. Perhaps that time some guy posted that he was off to the crapper to take a dump (although as I recall, that actually went over as fairly amusing, at least the first time the guy posted it. The second time, not so much.) AIUI Jesse had already been warned to stop it with the garbage threads. Oh well.

Oh my god, the irony, it burns…

I wish people would stop saying his posts were incomprehensible. They weren’t.

Really?

I am sure folks will post some things that he posted that on the face of it look meaningless.

But he had a way of posting that was weird and strange, (and annoying to some, of course).

He was interesting though. If you invest in his ‘nonsense’ then some things that seemed incoherent began to make sense.

Furthermore, I hate banning folks all the damn time. Oh my god. This place is losing more flavor everytime I turn around.

“Idiot” is a flavour?

As I pointed out here, I think his post was a satire of another thread in GD as someone else pointed out in that thread. The clue was the WTC in the title. But there were others clues as well.

Agreed.

And as I pointed out in that other post, jesse’s posts weren’t completely incomprehensible or they would be totally dismissible.
On the other hand, as to banning folks, I’m just not feeling enough emotion to care about this one–maybe I will at some point. I’m noticing though, that this one banning has gotten folks circling in the air and calling for others. I also don’t think that this banning was as cut-and-dried as some other people seem to think.

While I agree that his style of prose was at times ever-so-slightly entertaining, it read the way Ozzy Osbourne talks, and was as useless as tits on a nun, to boot.

He didn’t lack some key cortex of the brain that allows humans to post succinctly, as evidenced by cites of his earlier postings provided by other dopers. Therefore, we must conclude that he was a troll, and likely a half-baked one at that.

My idiot has a flavour…

In the UK, sure…

I can has flavour?

Is it O S C A R? Wait. That was first name. Never mind

AGREED!!!

After reading some threads today, I couldn’t agree with this more. And there’s threats of losing even more flavor all the time. Sigh.

I’m not sure why Giraffe decided to immediately ban the poster, instead of leaving his warning as a warning and then banning him next time.

The inter-mod discussion Giraffe references is beside the point. Since Giraffe had already issued the warning, he should have let the formalities play out in the way a warning sets things up to play out.

Besides all that’s been said, I’m still having a little trouble with the core reasoning…

It looked like we might want to ban him later, so we banned him? And you can’t discuss the decision on ATMB?

Kind of like the people sent to Guantanamo, no?

Ok, just go ahead say it: This is not a democracy; There is no due process; You do whatever you want to do, cuz it’s just a message board.
