Quick poll: how many posts per page do you use?

Just curious, really. I remember being shocked that this was even an option until someone pointed it out to me a few months back. In case you aren’t familiar, you can find the setting under the User Control Panel --> Edit Options in the “Thread Display Options” area. You can show anywhere from 5 posts per page to 200 posts per page.

When I learned about the option, I immediately set mine to be at the maximum of 200 posts per page. I don’t see the point in having to constantly click to view the next page, particularly if it’s a long thread. I’d rather load as much as possible and just continue to scroll without interruption. The only disadvantage this has for me is if I’m inclined to browse the Dope on my Blackberry when I’m commuting. It’s takes a lot to longer to load lengthy threads and gets to be a pain in the ass to scroll down if I’m only wanting to read the last few posts in a thread.

Anyway, I’m curious about the rest of you – what is yours set at? Feel free to justify or not as you see fit!

Hey, thanks! I didn’t know about this and have just set mine to 200.

I learned about the opton a few months ago as well (perhaps at the same time as you, Asi?) and have had mine set for 200 ever since.

I have to admit, though, that sometimes, when a long thread is mentioned elsewhere, it’ll say something to the effect of “14 pages” or somesuch, and my mind boggles at that. Then I realize that it only equals out to about 250 posts, not 2800! smacks self for being a goofball

What? Since when has 200 been an option?! immediately goes to change his account settings

Perhaps this thread should have asked, “Is there anyone who knows about the posts per page option that DOESN’T use 200 per page?”

Before this thread, it was set at 50 posts per page.

I usually max those kind of things out, such as at Gmail, etc. But I found it sometimes drastically affected the loading time, so I dropped it back to 50, which is well enough as I visit frequently enough that threads only get pushed to the 2nd page, if that.

I’ve had it at 200 for a long time.

There is a bit of oddness when someone mentions that a thread is up to four or five pages, or refers to a post back on page X.

I’ve had mine set to 200 ever since they first allowed that many posts per page. It’s wonderful, except that I get discombobulated when people talk about a 6 or 7 page thread and I’m like, “It’s only two pages!–Oh yeah.”

I knew the option to change to change it was there but I kept it at 50. As a matter of fact, any new forum I sign up for I set the default to 50 because I grown used to it from here.

It’s set for whatever the hell the default is. I know I can change it but haven’t felt the need.

I set mine for 200; however, I was unable to view the bottom few posts. Assuming it was some setting on my laptop resolution that I couldn’t figure out, I just set it back to 50 and have been satisfied ever since. I’m easy.

50 posts per page, the way Og and vBulletin intended!

I tried it at 200 for a day or so but found it disorienting, so I keep it at 50.

I have mine set to 100 posts per page.
As others have mentioned, it’s a little disorienting when someone mentions a thread being 6 pages long, I think, “No, it’s only 3 pages long… oh, never mind.”

I’ve had mine at 200 per page for a few months now. Somebody was trying to publicize this feature a while back - I think it was What Exit?.

I set it at 100 to see if I would like it and found it useful for finding my place in the mafia games. If the post count is 612 and the last post I read was 569 I know to go to page 6 (posts 501-600). Kinda handy.

Set it at 200 as soon as I heard about it, and have the same cognitive dissonance when others refer to pages of a thread. I only access the Dope from home, and the connection is robust enough to support the longer page, even when opening several threads in new background tabs (my standard MO).

It was me, I love it and I was trying to let other posters know about it. I’ve been at 200 since within a day of the change to allow it I believe. It is a huge help in very long threads and especially some of the game room and pit threads.

Another 200 per page user here.
It throws me a bit to see someone, usually in the Pit, say something like “it’s 4 pages now and no one has said…” and I’m still on page one.
